A bit of a slower week last week - not as much guitar practice as I'd like due to work. This week is similar, so we'll see how it goes. Working on a track from the other site, but doubt I'll get to record it this coming weekend, which was my original intention. Finally, thanks for all the positive comments on my video submission last week, really glad everyone enjoyed it. I've heard it so much and physically played it so many times I'm actually not impressed with it but your comments with "fresh" eyes really helped!
Also - hving been *SO* impressed with the Evaluation copy of Reaper, I paid for a licence this week. It's the first ever bit of recording software I have purchased, up-until-now it's all been free stuff on Linux, however, Reaper has proven itself indespensible and its licencing is at such a fair rate and at fair requirements I couldn't not have it!

There are 75 licks altogether I think, which will take 150 weeks at 2 weeks each, or almost 3 years! I think Bruce made a wise decision that we only study one lick every other week, so that people don't feel overburdened and drop out. But I also think that now we've demonstrated some endurance and a willingness to stick with the program, we should consider doing two licks every other week, when we get to chapter 2. Hmmm... Joachim, I think it is worth a shot at taking two licks in two weeks - especially with some of the short two bar licks. I think we'll try it on the next go 'round, after Lick 7. If we take Lick 8 (bars 5 and 6) plus lick 9 (goes over bars 7 and 8), it would make one four bar "lick", which sounds pretty doable. We can certainly push on the gas peddle a little bit with this, if everyone is okay with that. My intent was as you said - I didn't want to make this so odious that nobody would stick with it, but also with the hopes that this would sort of rejuvenate the forum, which had become pretty stagnant, in my opinion. I think this project, plus a couple of new members, has definitely pulled the forum out of doldrums.

I like having the "slack" time to work on presenting the current phrase in a chorus setting. But I'll happily go along with whatever the consensus is and keep up as well as I can. I definitely agree that if we do multiples they should be spread across the 12-bars. I was going to suggest that anyway when we get to the new section, even at 1 lick per biweek.
Not that I'm complaining, but I'm really looking forward to getting off the current backing track and on to something fresh.

Grampa, I like your idea, too. I'd thought about the same thing - that the five licks over the first four bars in a row would have been better broken up with some licks over other parts of the 12-bar progression. Heck, we could even jump from chapter to chapter if we wanted to (would break us out of the same backing track thing). But then I got to thinking that JG presented them is this order for a reason... He did say the licks generally increased in difficulty as the book progressed, I believe.
Sorry, I got cut off mid-thought there. Anyway, I think we'll try mixing it around a bit more on the next chapter. Really, if anybody has other ideas, please post them. If we try something and it just doesn't fly, we can change it back, or try something else.
