I upgraded my amp sim software from Amplitube 3 to Amplitube 4 Max - being an idiot, I thought that since Amplitube 3 worked just fine, so would Amplitube 4. Nope, it can't initialize my ASIO device. I uninstalled, re-installed (actually followed the directions the second time), that did nothing. I downloaded the ASIO 4 All drivers, which it recognized but didn't work with - I just got the dry guitar sound, no amp sim or anything. I can get it to work with Windows Audio or Direct Sound, if I don't mind a second or so of latency. Sigh...maybe if I just try it again later it will magically start working? That's my plan anyhow. It's really cool, it's got all the artist's presets so for instance you can choose Jimi Hendrix, then choose which of his albums you want, then which song, then which part of the song (the guitar sound for the intro, the verse, or the solo etc.) Man, if only it worked! Last week I mostly worked on Jeff Beck's version of Greensleeves, it's coming along. That "other guy" at that "other site" is having a "Fix-its" webinar on the 19th, where he goes through your recording and very thoroughly analyzes your playing and gives you tips on how to improve, so I'd like to get that recorded before then. Also messing around a bit with Simon & Garfunkel's version of "Scarborough Fair". Been slacking off on the Christmas songs - I better get back to work on them. They've got bell ringers for the Salvation Army in the mall already, good grief now I've got to avoid making eye contact with them for two months instead of just one

Jack, hope you get your software problem solved. That's always a time sucking pain. I got started on another finger style version of "White Christmas." The version I uploaded 2 years ago makes me cringe. However, I don't know if I'll nail it before Christmas. I'm still working on part 2 of the Mickey Baker book. If nothing else I'm getting better at reading standard notation and finding the notes on the fret board. I noticed that I'm doing far less calculating to find the notes. I think many guitarists put off learning to read music because they think they have to know the entire fret board first. I'm finding that you can learn to read and learn the fret board at the same time. I might write a blog post and explain how I'm doing this.
I swore I wouldn't buy another Truefire course. Well, I pre-ordered one the other day. One of my favorite guitarists, Tim Lerch, just recorded a finger style course and I couldn't resist. The guy is an incredibly versatile guitarist - straight up Blues, Jazz, Gypsy Jazz, Rockabilly, as comfortable with a pick as he is with his fingers. I'm interested in his approach to finger style Jazz. He was a student of Ted Greene and Lenny Breau. Just an amazing player.

I've wasted some time too with computer stuff. The "project" with my S-I-L (henceforth to be known as "The Project") is already taxing my little laptop trying to run the now free Cakewalk by Bandlab software, but it's working. Just have to restart my laptop every now and again--something is chewing up RAM as the computer runs, which seems to cause dropouts heading over to my Helix LT via USB (I'm using the Helix as my audio interface). I don't think I'll get any Christmas stuff done, per se, but I'm hopeful that we'll have a good first take with The Project by then, though he likely won't be done with all the final mastering or whatever magic he'll be doing after it's "tracked". For now I'm just feeding him guitar "stems" and a bass track that I did up by hand (Cakewalk lets you draw notes on a staff which it converts to midi) and rendered to .wav format using the free trial version of a great, but pricey, bass guitar plugin (Modo Bass).
So most of my time is going to The Project, but I'm still dutifully working on Electric Gypsy for 30-60 minutes every morning. As I'm altering my technique I experience a lot of fatigue and occasionally some soreness (the benign sore muscle type). At time I feel like somewhere along the way a bunch of tendons in my hand got tied in knots. But like I mentioned before, as I slog through that intro, my global technique is improving.

You should be able to find it.

Well, got past a bunch of work and other stuff, got the guitar out and played some the past couple of days. Pretty rusty, but going to try to get back to it a little more regularly (like every day). Jack, I feel for you - software updates are always painful...

Well I too wasted time fixing computers; oh wait that was work! Lol.
I started on a Albert Collins tune called Put the Shoe on the other foot, its a funk rythm and we all remember how i suck at funk! At the list i got the picking riff down and in time, spent 2 hours today fighting with the rythmn which I have sort of, instructor said we will hit it hard on Wed and start on the solo.
