Pretty average week for me, practiced about 5 days. Still working on "Landslide", did a bit of recording using a mic on the acoustic and with a bit of EQ I can get a fairly satisfactory sound. The song is at 80 BPM and I'm playing at 75 BPM, still having problems with playing through the chorus without any major mistakes, but I suppose I'm making progress (or at least that's what I keep telling myself). It's fairly hard fingerpicking on a 12 string because there's all those extra damned strings in the way - if a fingertip is the least bit out of position you catch an adjacent string which of course rings out louder than anything else lol.
I should work on the solo some more this coming week.

2nd week of class continued ragtime style, reviewed intervals, and added mixolodian scale into practice. Started a new tune but cant remember the name as i havent reviewed it yet. Been messing around with trio plus. 1 hour of practice almost everyday plus an extended class .

Almost all my work was on Electric Gypsy this week. That and a few homemade things created to get me used to doing more in the Hendrix/Little Wing vein, which sort of flows from EG. 11 days until vacation.

Nothing new or exciting to report. Got together with another guitarist one day last week. We tried to play a couple of songs I hadn't practiced in several weeks. It was a train wreck at first. I had those songs memorized at one time, but I kept getting lost. Just goes to show that I need to review regularly or I'll forget. On the upside - we were able to eventually get back on track without digging out The Real Book. These Jazz standards have some pretty complex chord progressions and we're committed to playing them from memory. It's good exercise for my old brain.

Oops, accidentally ordered a Robert Renman blues solo instructional thing. Him and his tasty note choice and me with my credit card nearby

Oops, accidentally ordered a Robert Renman blues solo instructional thing. Him and his tasty note choice and me with my credit card nearby Man, I hate when that happens. Not too long ago I decided definitively to not buy any more courses. Then Truefire had a sale a couple of weeks ago and I was forced to buy another course. It was beyond my control. Actually, in turned out to be well worth it. It's one of those master class things with about 10 instructors giving tips on various subjects. For 18 bucks I couldn't pass it up.

Well, I succumbed to the buying books thing, too, this week. Joseph Alexander at Fundamental Changes had 10 of their kindle e-books on sale for $1.99 each... I couldn't help myself. Bought "Chord Tone Soloing for Jazz Guitar", "Fundamental Changes in Jazz Guitar", and "100 Classic Rock Licks for Guitar". Then I had to work all weekend, so haven't really even got to look at them. At least these were inexpensive, and being e-books, they only take up space on my hard drive.

Oops, accidentally ordered a Robert Renman blues solo instructional thing. Him and his tasty note choice and me with my credit card nearby I like Renman a lot, although I haven't actually tried to learn anything directly from his free online lessons. I get sort of seasick watching that weird angle he uses in his later stuff to show the guitar neck (sort of upside down). Be interested to see what you think of the course you're trying.

I've done a couple of his courses, "The Christmas Song" and "You Got To Help Me". I loved both of those songs I don't really use the videos much, the way I learn stuff is to download the MP3 of him playing it, put it in Reaper and slow it way down, print out the tab and play along. Once I've got the timing somewhat down I switch to playing it along with the backing track (without him playing). I just check the video if I'm a little confused about the fingering, like "Which finger does he use to do that bend?" or "Does he reach up to play that note with his pinky, or does he move his whole hand up?", stuff like that. This is a pretty cool solo, reminds me a lot of John's stuff in More Blues You Can Use. It was on sale for 40% off, but I think it's back to full price now (which is kind of ridiculously high). www.masterguitaracademy.com/store/12-bar-blues-solo-key-of-a/?
