I went back to this study because I could never get measures 7 and 8 with the right feel. Still don't know if I got it, but it's better than it used to be. It suddenly occurred to me that it's a shuffle (as noted in the upper left of the tab) and 2 barred 8th notes should be counted as '1-and-a' with the 1st note on the number and the 2nd on the 'a' and not counted as '1-and'. There is a good explanation of this on page 19. I guess I should pay more attention to the stuff that is written between the studies. I recorded this using my Behringer Guitar Link through Native Instruments AC Combo modeling software and recorded with Ableton Lite 8. I'm learning how to use Ableton, but Audacity was so much simpler. Problem is I don't know how to get Audacity to use an ASIO driver. It has something to do with licensing and Audacity being open source. Enough babbling - here it is. As always, comments and critiques are welcome. Phil I re-recorded it with Reaper and I like the sound better (unfortunately the playing is just as bad). soundcloud.com/jack_e_blue/double-stop-stomp-2

Overall the sound quality is better so the USB seems like it was the ticket for you. The NI software seems like it does a good job too. Nice tone overall (and lets not neglect a primary component in tone comes from the player's hands). Other than getting a bit tangled up in the turnaround sounds good. I always struggle mixing triplets in with eighth notes (even "shuffle" eighths).
I've tried properly "counting" a shuffle but so far I always get confused and mess up, but that might help transitioning to the triplets in the pickup on the last beat of the turnaround. That was my theory, anyway, in trying to learn how to count a shuffle. I still do best just going on instinct with shuffles though.
I find myself probably spending more time on the "lesson" material in BYCU than on the studies, one of the reasons I'm going one per month. Lots of good stuff and it's worth going through the supplemental material in the "lessons" section of the site (he's got notes on the first 6 I think).

Grampa, Thanks for the input. I'll have to listen to the full version again. I've played with the backing track so many times without going back to the full version that any errors I made were just getting reinforced and no longer noticeable by me as errors.
I downloaded Reaper since I saw that a few people here use and like it. I recorded this about 30 minutes after downloading it. It's less complicated than Ableton. Of course, what I learned from using Ableton and watching tutorials was transferable to Reaper, so I already knew some of the basics of how a DAW operates. That shortened the learning curve. Anyway, I like Reaper and will probably buy it when my 60 days are up.
Thanks for the tip on the supplemental material. I wasn't aware of that.
