Wow, $6.95 for a set of strings would have been pretty steep in 1978. I guess it's all in the marketing.
BTW, GnLguy, I bought some DR Pure Blues string on your recommendation. I dropped down a gauge from 11's to 10's (my old, little, weak, boney, arthritic, fingers were getting beat up by the 11's). Anyway, I really like these strings and plan on sticking with them for a while. I think the strength I built up from the 11's really helped. These DR's bend like butter.

I have found that DR Pure Blues are everything that they are advertised to be. They will be my main string as well.
I did just the opposite of you and bumped up from 010s to 011s. After playing acoustic with 011s and since the treble strings only move up 001 per string, its easy to bend them. I looked at DR's 012 set and found that the 3rd string jumps to 024. Don't think I want to try those just yet; 018 to 024 is quantum leap for sure
I tried a set of their Black Beauty acoustic strings and didn't like them, found them to be very stiff so I emailed company to ask if those strings were typically that stiff. They responded within a couple of hours and recommended that I try their Sunbeam acoustic strings. I bought a set and they are really good sounding string as well
