“There’s a lot of guitar players out here. They just play… they play fast, they don’t concentrate on no soul.” - Albert King

Albert King certainly put emphasis on each note having meaning and "soul" rather than just playing fast for the sake of it. Also, see my recently added signature too

Yeah, I though that quote fit well with your signature line - and that video is a fine example. I love how he lays those fills into Pride and Joy. Great stuff!

Yeah that's what I've been trying to concentrate on with my improvising; coming from a heavy metal background and being the poster boy for "stupid kid" style guitar playing, It's a complete 180 to work on keeping it simple, concentrating on hitting the right notes and actually saying something other than "look how fast my fingers move"

Albert King was a bit of a strange character. He was one of the most innovative and influential Blues guitarists ever. He played a right handed strung guitar left handed and tuned down to something like a C minor open tuning. So, there's no way he could copy anybody by watching them. It had to be done strictly by ear. Imagine trying to find chord shapes in that situation.
Yet, in spite of all this, he not only changed his last name to King, he tried to pass himself off as B.B. King's brother. B.B. called his guitar Lucille. Albert blatantly copied even that and called his guitar Lucy. It's said that he borrowed money from SRV and when it came time to repay him he refused, saying that SRV owed him for what SRV learned from him.
In other words, he was a super-talent who was so insecure that he did petty things that you'd only expect from a far lesser talent.

What would be awesome is if you got to the end of Cheap Runs and did a little segue straight into Heartbreaker by Zeppelin

Phil - never knew those facts about Albert King. Weird to think that the people we look up to musically still have their own "baggage"
