I got in 11 hours 20 minutes on guitar and 2 hours on bass. Worked a lot on writing a couple of choruses for Delta Mood. I guess the writing is done but from listening to my recording yesterday, there's still a LOT of practicing to be done. What kind of idiot puts .011s on his guitar and then puts second fret full step bends in his solo? Especially right at the beginning of the second chorus which took me forever to write, so I ended up playing through the first part a gazillion times lol.
Worked a tiny bit on Atlantic Coast Soul in the R&B book, did a little improvising with adding in the major 3rd over the I chord, which seems to work best if you hit it right as the chord changes back to the I. Also did a little Bass Aerobics.
I was thinking I should start on the Blues Licks You Can Use book. I need some licks. Just need to devise some sort of a practice routine for it.

I had a decent week of practice. Divided between BCYCU, R&BYCU and some licks and technique exercises.
Jack, I also thought I'd give "Blues Licks You Can Use" a stab, but I have so much on my plate right now, that I should probably wait - BCYCU is a more time-consuming than I thought, but I feel I am learning a lot.
I upgraded BIAB to the 2015 version, and played with it a lot also. There's so much cool stuff in there; I should try to play some of the studies in there, and use the call-and-response practice mode also..

Good week of practice, for a change wasn't so darned busy. I'm having fun with Delta Mood, trying to "extend" it so to speak, but keep the same "feel" of it. I'm pretty sure I could knock out a recording of Chord-On Blues if I ever could find some time in my "studio" to just do it. I'm still working on a slow blues from a different course - I think some slow blues choruses would be a good weapon to add to my arsenal. I've been thinking maybe a should revive my journey thru Jazzin' The Blues. You guys are also making me want to buy Blues Licks You Can Use, but I'm fighting that never ending desire to buy more guitar books.

I'm trading places with Bruce this week. I only got in 2 hours of practice. I thought that I missed the deadline for "Delta Mood," but I guess not. Maybe I'll still have a chance to submit something. In any case, I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys have come up with. Regarding licks: John G. has posted some very good ones recently in the "Lick of the Week" section. This week's lick is a very playable intro by B.B. King. Bruce, in all seriousness, resist the temptation to buy more books. Maybe there's a support group for those of us who can't resist buying more books and courses. I know I'd be a charter member. If you want to get into "Jazzin' the Blues" and your practice time is limited, then focus on JtB and put MBYCU on the back burner. Or dabble in MBYCU, if and only if, you have extra time. There's a lot of useful theory in JtB that requires some time and thought to absorb. It's an excellent book to transition into Jazz the studies are playable, and there is the added bonus of no significant bends.

Well I got a good 5 hours of practice, continuing in brycu did some improv practice and started looking chord on blue then realized I hadn't saved the MP3 files since I took my external cd to work.
I played some acoustic guitar this week also.
I need to join the group of those with an addiction to buying more blues books also.
i have found I need to build up some more stamina when holding chords and get smoother, I will probably be focusing on rythm playing for awhile I found I kind of like just playing a groove.

I was rather pleased this week to get a recording done of Drivin' Blues but it did take up a lot of my available practice time, I even dropped the bass for a few weeks!!! I've started on MBYCU lesson 3 and it should take me to a new level of speed playing. To help with the speed and picking accuracy I have added some other alternating picking and legato lessons to give me a bit of variety. For me this one is really about developing my skills in order to be able to play this tune if that makes sense. I've also added the bass back into the mix with the help of yet another book - "Blues Bass" by Jon Liebman .

This past week was a rest week for me (mostly at the beach)! No guitar playing until this afternoon/evening, and I decided to have some fun and play a bunch of Tom Petty stuff that I like to play. It's good to just jam along, playing rhythm with the rest of The Heartbreakers! This week I should get back into my regular practice routine and continue to focus on Bending the Blues. One thing that I did find is that my B and G string bends are actually not flat, but too high (usually by a half step). My high E string bends are the ones that are flat. This week I plan to focus on bringing both into the correct pitch.

Nah, I wouldn't say I worked through it, I kind of played around with it a little bit (like most of the books I own) He likes to throw in some quick licks in his songs, and I bought that book shortly after I began playing bass and that was just beyond my abilities. It would do me good to work through it but on top of figuring out and practicing the bass line for whatever BYCU song I'm working on, and some Bass Aerobics on the side, I just don't have the time.
