So ever since I put those Seymour Duncan 59s in my Ibanez, I've thought that the neck pickup sounded great, the bridge pickup, well it sounded okay, kind of weird actually, and both pickups together sounded terrible. I finally decided I must have something hooked up wrong, so I double checked the wiring diagram - the problem is that I've got a 5-way, 8-lug pickup selector switch and Seymour Duncan has ZERO diagrams for that type of switch, so I had to use a DiMarzio wiring diagram. It gets confusing because even though DiMarzio and Seymour Duncan use the same wire colors, they're used on different wires (red=north start on DiMarzio, but that wire is black on Seymour Duncans, etc. etc.) So I double checked the diagram and the color code conversion chart and came to the conclusion I had it all hooked up right. At this point I decided to re-wire the whole thing and ordered a new 3-way pickup selector switch ($8.00) which would greatly simplify the wiring. Also ordered a push-pull volume pot ($12.00) so I could do coil tapping, and a new capacitor ($7.00) just to be sure I had the right one on the tone control. So then as I'm waiting for this stuff to arrive, I puzzled over the wiring diagrams again - this time I finally noticed that I had the green and black wires on the bridge pickup reversed. So ten minutes of soldering after 3 hours of research, and now it sounds great!!! And $27.00 worth of junk I don't need on it's way to me now. Just to add insult to injury, I ordered a pickup selector switch that mounts in a round hole, while my guitar has a narrow slot, so it wouldn't physically fit in the guitar anyway. Hey I earned that award! I'm afraid I'm not being very devoted to my music this week, golf season started and I've already wasted three prime guitar playing evenings chasing a little white ball around, and the fourth one I spent taking my guitar apart lol. That class does go into a whole lot of detail about stuff that a hobbyist like me probably doesn't need to know, like file structures etc. Once he gets into recording stuff on a DAW I found that much more applicable to my needs. How to use compression and EQ and a bunch of features of the DAW I never knew existed before.

Jack I am with on that when I did the pearly gate swap on my carvin I had a hell of a time also, couldn't find a decent diagram going from a 3 wire carvin pick up to the 4 wire different color code as well, first round guitar sounded good on neck like crap on bridge and no sound on middle. I removed and re soldered those pups at least four times, last time I felt pretty good as I found a better color code conversion. Lesson learned is research installation manuals and diagrams before pulling the trigger.

Good to know I'm not the only one Rich Sure would be nice if Seymour Duncan had a larger variety of diagrams for more types of guitars.
