Well I practiced an average 6 hours this week maybe a bit more.
Worked on cleaning up Blue Sixths but haven't recorded it again, started on hard Rocker. I also spent about 45 minutes working on BRYCU. I am working on trying to get the feel for using a slide. Bought it for me.
Still having trouble understanding the lesson on Hard Rocker, Phil gave me a good explanation but still not sure I got it it. Problem understanding the chord and pattern mix charts.

I got in 6 days of practice for a total of a little over 6 hrs. I started setting weekly goals a couple of weeks ago. I set 7 goals last week and only completed 1, which was to record "Blues for Charlie."
I need to re-assess how I'm setting these goals. You can't make them too easy, but you also can't make them unattainable. I think I just set too many.
I spent a lot more time than I usually do on chords and rhythms this week, and that was time well spent. I also spent about an hour trying to learn Dicky Betts's solo from the Allman Bros. version of "One Way Out." I've got the 1st 6 bars down. This is something I definitely need to work on regularly. The benefits of this are numerous.
So, although I didn't reach most of my goals, it was a pretty good week overall.

Between Sunday and Thursday I got in about 14 hours, then Friday and Saturday the practice schedule went out the window and I just worked on writing a solo for Got The Drive in the Rhythm book. Had it about two-thirds done Friday but then I decided it was all crap and started over on Saturday. I think I've got a main theme I'm satisfied with, and maybe half the solo written (subject to numerous changes and revisions ). Makes me mad because I've got a pretty good take of the rhythm guitar recorded but of course I didn't have the video camera going at the time, and since then I haven't been able to get a good take of it Spent some time on Groovin' Easy in More BYCU. Think it's in the "polishing" phase now, which as past experience shows usually takes me as long as the whole learning it in the first place part. Worked on my improvising, think I'll split that practicing 50% to rhythmic phrasing (using the book "The Complete Guide To Playing Blues Guitar Book 2: Melodic Phrasing" by Joseph Alexander), and 50% to note choice, memorizing the chord tones of the dominant 7 I-IV-V progression which fall within the scale. I'll work on adding non-scale chord tones after I've got a handle on the first part. Like a year from now On bass I mostly worked on Boom Boom Out Go The Lights by Little Walter. It's all straight 1/4 notes, which you think would be easy, but because of the never-changing rhythm even the slightest deviation from perfection stands out like a sore thumb lol. Started writing an original song too, it's kind of pretty. Haven't worked on it since last week Sunday though, too busy with other stuff. Ordered another alto recorder as well - the first one I bought was really cheap just to see if I liked it, which I do, so I got a little better one now. I'd really like a tenor recorder too, it's larger and has a wonderfully sweet and rich sound, but good grief, I need to stop buying all this other junk and start squirreling money away for a semi-hollow body guitar - birthday presents don't buy themselves

Well I practiced a good bit this week, but didn't time any of it. I probably should make it a point to time my playing - I may just be totally deluding myself, and I think a lot of it may be "musical rambling" in front of the TV. I'm thinking I probably need to set some simple goals, too, but I don't want to be like Phil says where I don't actually accomplish any of them...
I met a guy here in town (through another internet blues forum) who is also into playing blues guitar, and we met up at an open mike jam yesterday (just to listen and to introduce ourselves, not to play). I'm hoping maybe we could start getting together and playing some, maybe work up some blues songs.
I've got some time this afternoon, so I'm going to FINALLY make a video with my new Ibanez. Now it's out there, I've tossed down the gauntlet, there's no backing out now! If I don't get off my large backside and get this done, I'm inviting all to flame me mercilessly!

Yup, I've never heard you get anything other than a fantastic sound out of that, and it's a gorgeous instrument too. I've been watching pretty much every demo of a semi-hollow body guitar on YouTube lol. I think shopping is half the fun

Hi y'all! Well, unless the hard practicing musician has enough leisure time left to spend on the forum it's kind of hard to keep track o everything that's going on here - upcoming graduation parties on all sides, Phil ventures into Jazz, Bruce is back in the music production biz etc. Summing it up, all I can say is you guys are all doing great! As for me, I try to sneak in some guitar minutes here and there, but whatever free time I got on my hands i need to put into this recording course I mentioned... I can tell this is one is pretty work intensive, and I really doubt I'll actually need all those things I'm supposed to learn here for my purposes... nevertheless, after bothering everyone on the forum with requests for support to set up my recording gear, I feel determined to see this through in order to stand firm on my own two feet afterwards when it comes to recording stuff again... I wonder whether they keep going at this pace or if they give us a break sometime inbetween... I guess I'll 'see' you guys in 6 weeks when this course will be over (given i survive this). Keep on the good work everybody, greetings, t. Hurry up and finish the course, please. I have a bunch of questions to ask you about recording.
