Nursedad,
we did an simple experiment of jamming online using Google hangout. It wasn't without flaws, but it seems promising. It'd be interesting in particpating if it, but someone probably needs to put in some time and try it.
I played with Jack, who is lightyears ahead of me, but I managed to still mostly have a good time, and it's incredibly valuable practice. You will probably be surprised by how much you of your playing you forget when it counts - it takes a few tries to get comfortable playing in the presence of others.

Nursedad,
I think this sounds cool - I don't know how it compares to the Google hangout that Joachim and Jack used (and I missed out on). I'd be game to give it a go. Joachim, when you say Google hangout wasn't without flaws, what kind of problems did you have?

Bruce,
For example, it's not possible to simultaneously use an instrument soundcard like my Focusrite and a microphone for talking when I press a key. So I had to manually change input source if I wanted to say to something to Jack. Also suppose I wanted to play a backing track for all to hear while playing using the Focusrite soundcard; I am not sure to do that.
But apart from that, and occasional disconnects, it actually worked quite well. A decicated application prioritizing audio over video, and some special features for backing tracks will probably work even better for something like this, though.

Yeah, it seems like you need to be able to speak to each other somehow. This Jamkazam video shows a vocalist, but I don't know if you could plug in both an instrument and a microphone. Being able to play a drum track or some other backing track would also be nice, since our "band" doesn't seem to include a drummer. I think this kind of technology has great potential for those of us who rarely (if ever) play with other musicians.
