Well, I missed last week's thread so to make up for it I'll start this week's. Last Sunday we had a memorial at a beautiful setting on a beautiful lake and my thoughts just didn't turn to guitar.
This past week I played less than I felt like I was going to be playing last time I checked in. 3-4 days @ 30 minutes or so per was all I managed. I've got about 2 weeks, maybe a little under, before I head back to the real world and it seems like I might not get back into a good daily routine until then. The number of distractions will be mounting as I begin the process of closing the hideout down for the year. At least my hands should be pretty well rested.

Good to hear about the beautiful memorial Grampa! Some nice memories going forward. I spent the whole week just working on the tapping part of the outro solo for "Headed for a Heartbreak." Had it up to about 90% tempo yesterday, shooting for 100% by the end of this week I seem to have developed an obsession for that little part. I'm thinking this song will take me until the end of next month to finish, as I've got lots of work to do on the rest of the outro solo (haven't even started on the part after the tapping), and then there's the rhythm parts and - maybe - I'll try doing the keyboard part as well. Oh well, it's a fun project and I'm still quite motivated to work hard on it. Hope you all had a good week

Slow week guitar-wise here. Just busy with a thousand other things - didn't even get in a round of golf . Threw out my back lifting a heavy bin as we were leaving our lake place last weekend, and that had me down all week. My back was then exacerbated by a plane flight on Thursday (there's nothing like sitting for hours with your knees in your nose to flare up back spasms, let me tell you). I'm feeling better now, but somewhat dreading the flight back tomorrow. Had a nice visit with our son and his fiancé at least. It's a long way from Oklahoma to Virginia where they live now, and we don't get to see them very often. Hopefully I'll find some time to get out my guitar and play around more with a new recording setup when we get back.

I actually did a little "real practice" this week. By "real practice" I mean doing those things that help improve general technique and require a lot of repetition. I did quite a bit of walking bass on a 12-bar blues in Bb and F. That allows me to easily work on 6th string root in Bb and a 5th string root in F. These aren't exactly guitar friendly keys but they're the most common keys in Jazz.
The other thing was an exercise in going up a scale with chords on top 4 strings. The scale was a major scale with an added flat-6th making it an 8 note scale. Its a very interesting exercise because you only use 2 chords - a Major 6th and a diminished. Of course you're using different voicings of these 2 chords. This would probably only be of interest if you're into Jazz and/or chords melodies. Maybe I'll make a short video demonstrating it if anybody if interested.

What a lively and buzzing forum!
Phil, I am certainly interested in that.
I kept practicing the early parts of Jody Fisher's method book, and I am slowly seeing an improvement. But there are also many exercises I cannot play cleanly yet - so I am taking my time. Here's a video (not by me) of one of the studies, about soloing over a simple progressing using a single major scale. The first chorus is just the printed solo, and then the reader is supposed to continue improvising (as the Youtobe poster does beautifully). That is still a big challenge for me. Also, some of the chord fingerings are next to impossible for me.
At the same time I was working on extending the melody part for Autumn Leaves with an additional small solo, inspired by Clapton.
