I can't help but feel that I broke the forum by posting something so far off topic so I'll get this weeks update started. It's guitar related and fitness related. I woke up yesterday with Golfer's Elbow (medial epicondylitis) in my left arm. I don't golf and I don't know what the hell I did exercising to bring this on so suddenly. It hurts to play guitar. Not bad (yet), but enough to make me press down on the strings more gently to avoid pain. I'm really being forced to develop a light touch.
I spent most of last evening reading and watching YouTubes about the condition and treatments. I know enough about these kind of things to know that it often takes months for the condition to disappear. I also reactivated a recurring shoulder joint problem. Everything was going so well for 5 weeks and then I had to get over confident and push my old body too far. I'm really pissed off at myself. On a more upbeat note: I watched The Talking Heads concert video from 1984, "Stop Making Sense." I had seen clips of it before but never the whole thing. Man, what an innovative, creative musician and showman David Byrne was/is. The energy level of that concert is off the charts. The whole band including the back up singers had to be in tip top physical condition with all the jumping around they did. High quality music and high quality performance. Is there anybody doing anything comparable today?

Sorry to hear about your elbow Phil - that damned exercise...and to think some people actually claim it's good for you I had an okay week, got "Unchained" finished up and started on "Lay it Down" by Ratt. The main riff is rather challenging - you're holding down a 5th string root major bar chord and doing pulloffs to it with your pinky, so you have to keep the third finger flat on the fretboard. Then you slide up on the middle strings with your third and fourth fingers while leaving the index finger in place; very easy to get unintentional notes sounding on the high strings (which sounds terrible) unless you get a good arch in your fingers to stay off them. So from "keep it down flat" to "raise it up as high as it will go" lol. The solo has plenty of challenges as well, I think I'm at three-quarters tempo so far. I haven't watched any concerts lately. Last night I downloaded Led Zeppelin IV and Physical Graffiti. I like to sit out on the swing in the back yard, on a beautiful summer's evening, have a few beers and listen to music on my phone and wireless headphones. Really liking "Bron-Yr-Aur" (the acoustic piece) as well as "The Battle of Evermore," featuring a female folk singer. I'd like to get a mandolin some day and learn to play that Oh well, take care everybody, and be safe out there

First your back, now my elbows. This whole thing about exercise being good for you is obviously a conspiracy by Big Fitness to get us to buy over priced exercise equipment.
That Van Halen song sounds pretty darn good. Keep 'em coming.

Late to the party again. Had a busy weekend, with my son and his fiancé visiting from out of state. Sorry to hear about the elbow, Phil. Ah, yes, the down side of exercise... (been wrangling with plantar fasciitis myself - grrrr!). I don't think I have to worry about golfer's elbow, as I'm not much of a real golfer. LOL!. Not much progress on the guitar front, though I think I played at least some every day. Phil, I actually saw that Talking Heads tour (with David Byrne's big white blazer) back in my youth! That opening with Psycho Killer is an absolute classic.

I was wondering if that was a one off show for the movie or if they took that whole production on the road. That must have quite an experience.
