I had an okay week, got started on "Into the Arena" by Michael Schenker. It's basically a technical showpiece - I'll see what kind of roadblock I hit when I start increasing the tempo lol. I've got it memorized up through the second guitar solo, and I'm currently (trying) to play that at two-thirds tempo. Some of it is already pretty fast. Oh well, even if I never get it up to full tempo it's excellent technique practice.

I'm back into some sort of regular practice regime now. Mainly working on the Stetina Lead, Rhythm and Total Rock books. The only book I managed to finish previously was the vol 1 Rhythm book so loads to do. The only song I got anywhere near good enough to record from the Lead Guitar book was the first solo, 11 more to work on . I haven't recorded anything for a couple of years now so no doubt I will have to relearn how to use the software again etc. Thats as well as relearning how to play guitar.

Good to hear you're getting back into it Mick! I really liked the Stetina books. Some very cool songs in "Total Rock Guitar" and all those solos in the Lead books are great. Especially "New Lands", I loved that one. My all-time favorite Stetina solo is this one though

I've kept up with Guitar Aerobics, also lots of R&BYCU. Mick, I'm sure when I hear some Stetina stuff, I'll want to break that back out, too! I only made it through the first 2 or 3 songs in "Total Rock Guitar", as I recall.

Well, things have been manic as I prep for the choir performance next Friday (17th). Had a rehearsal last night and there's some Les Mis. in there - which is in 12/8 and has a shuffle feel, so am pleased that my blues rhythm stuff is really paying off on this one. It's a medley of pieces lasting about 15 minutes. Page turning the 30 or so pages is a new skill - playing what you can to the end of the page, turning the page, then tracking where you are on the new page and trying to join back in as quickly as possible! The pianist used an iPad with a PDF - and *foot pedal kit* to turn the pages!!! AWESOME kit - no way I could afford that I'm also doing another 12-Bar-Blues-Solo from Dave Rubin. The backing track is only a rhythm guitar. I've worked out what it's doing and am thinking of making my own backing track (again) with more parts. Trying to come up with multiple rhythm guitar parts for a sing track is pushing me to find the space in the mix and learn new rhythmic ideas. I'll keep you posted
