In keeping with my highly structured practice routine of, well...screwin' around with whatever I feel like, I worked on Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box" last week. The chorus is basically power chords alternating with a 1/2 step bend - it's funny because I always try to get my bends to sound smooth and unobtrusive, but in this song you want the bend to sound as obnoxious as possible lol. There's one of those "hotseats" sessions at "the other site" on the 17th so I'm hoping to have something recorded by then.
Didn't do much on Christmas stuff - on classical guitar you need longer fingernails on your picking hand, and I had two fingernails split right down the middle and said screw it and cut them off to normal length. Well now I ain't got no tone on classical guitar lol. Ah well, hopefully get back into that a bit this week.

Same as usual for me; MBYCU and Fleetwood Mac. I have put a little effort into bringing some MBYCU studies up to speed, so I might try to record some of them. I thought of combining "Jumpin' Blues" with a few Peter Green shuffle choruses...

I didn't do much serious practice this week. However, I did get together with another guitarist 3 times for about an hour each time. That's not really practice, but it counts for something - primarily how bad I play. I had a few things that I thought I had down cold. When I tried them out with him the wheels fell off the cart. There's something about playing with another person that exposes your weaknesses as no other way can. I've concluded that if I can't play something with another person then I haven't internalized it yet. Over a year ago I wrote an article on how to turn a standard 3 chord Blues into a basic Jazz Blues progression. I was supposed to do a follow up article expanding on the concept the following month. Well, I finally got around to doing it. Some of you might find this useful. I talk about using approach chords, syncopated rhythm, and short walking bass lines. It's all done using simple 3-note chords (shell voicings) on the bottom 4 strings which are great for accompanying another guitarist. Audio examples are given and PDFs are available. The audio was generated by Guitar Pro. I need to redo them with me actually playing, but this was easier and faster and I'm lazy.
With the time it took me to write the article, do the tabs, and put all the graphics in I probably could have recorded 10 videos.
If you read it I'd appreciate it if you could point out any errors or problems with the article. I especially want to know if it's clear and understandable.

Well we moved on to Albert Collins Skatin same rhythm from previous tune so working on the solos got at least 1 leak down pretty good.

Another really bad week here. I guess I need to decide whether or not I even play the guitar anymore...

Like Rich says, it happens to all of us. A couple days ago I was going to try and get something recorded but spent the whole time trying to figure out why the damned software was all effed up. Then yesterday I settled in for a nice long practice session - really gonna go through some Christmas tunes and make some progress. And of course after ten minutes I had to run off and do something else
