I had a pretty good week, think I practiced just about every day. Still working on "Landslide", last week's video was the first 7 pages of sheet music - that's about all I can fit on my desk at one time lol. I'm working on the next couple of pages now, the second chorus is a little different than the first. Also working on the solo. Making progress I decided not to sign up for the monthly challenge at the other site, it didn't interest me too much and I don't want to get distracted by anything before I get a finished recording of Landslide done. I bought a couple of Fleetwood Mac songbooks lol. There are some other songs of theirs I'd like to work on eventually: Gold Dust Woman, The Chain, and maybe Rhiannon. Probably should get this one finished first though I bought some keyboard books a few weeks ago if I remember correctly, hmmm...wonder whatever happened to those?

This is the first week in 5 years that I didn't write down everything I worked on and note the amount of time I spent on each thing. Most of you probably have never been as obsessive as I was about documenting everything. All I can say is that it was liberating not feeling obligated to cover a whole list of things. I actually picked up the guitar more often for short periods because I knew I didn't have to write down what I did. Sounds crazy, but that's where I was at. I made a short list of things that I wanted to cover during the week. One main thing (a song) and a few other things if time allowed, or if I got bored with the main thing. The only goal was to work on one Jazz standard, "There Will Never Be Another You" - chords, melody, solo, chord melody. Turns out I never got around to working on the solo or chord melody. I ended up spending most of my time working on a rhythm accompaniment for the song that I saw a guy play in a guitar duet on YouTube. It's very cool sounding and the principle is useful in general. I used YouTube's slow down feature and was able to copy most of what the guy played. I would never have figured this out by ear alone. The bottom line is that I freed myself from the box I put myself in. I still think goals are important and that you need a plan to achieve those goals. However, you can over do it with too many goals and overly detailed plans. Sometimes you have to get out of your own way.
Jack, you have guitar, bass, and keyboards covered. Now you just need a drum kit to complete the picture. Musician's Friend surely must have a Labor Day sale going on. I'd check it out if I were you.

I am a little pressed with practice time at the moment. Still managed to work my way through Rakin' the Blues, though. For the lesson next week I am starting over on the book, and my hope is that I will be able to do something more with the studies now.

Oh don't think I haven't browsed at a few of those electronic drum pad kits over the years Nope, I just build some shelves in my closet so I could get all the stuff off the floor and hidden away, now I can walk in here without any major tripping hazards. No room for nothin' more! Well...except of course there's wall space for hanging more guitars...
