I had an interesting week. I opened JamKazam for the first time in many months, and I noticed someone nearby had send me a friends request. I added him and joined an open session he was in, just to the test if everything was working properly. And all of a sudden I was in a session with a kick-ass bass-player / vocalist, another guitarist and a drummer. Needless to say, I felt a little naked jumping into a session unprepared, but the bass-player called out "Stormy Mondays" and walked us through the progression as we played.
There was no video, just audio, but it worked perfectly for 4 players in Denmark and UK.
Then I bought a new computer, a tiny quad-core Intel NUC, which is way more powerful than my old laptop. I installed Linux on it and have played around with recording audio and video. The conclusion is that it is just as easy on Linux as on Windows, and the result is better.
I record the webcam using ffmpeg directly: $ ffmpeg -f v4l2 -framerate 60 -video_size 1280x720 -input_format mjpeg -i /dev/video0 -f alsa -i hw:1 rhythm.mkv
and then record audio in Reaper with my SM57 microphone at the same time, as usual. Then I use Blender to make split screen videos with the audio from Reaper, and that process in Blender is not more difficult than using Sony Vegas Studio. Everything works brilliantly without installing special drivers or tweaking systems settings. And I won't be unpleasantly surprised by random Windows Updates.
The only downside is that JamKazam doesn't have a Linux client, but I can use my Windows laptop for that.

Sounds great Joachim! I didn't get much playing done last week - but at least I have lots of excuses First I was busy with yard work and it's like a gazillion percent humidity outside, which didn't leave me feeling like playing guitar afterwards. Then I did some computer upgrades - the damn stuff on the screen keeps getting smaller and smaller so I got a larger monitor, then I decided since it's 4K I should get a new graphics card, and since the new card draws more power than my old one I got a new power supply which of course is a bit of a job to install. And to top it all off I caught a cold lol. Eh, better luck this week I guess. I should at least be able to edit and render videos much faster with my new setup

That's awesome, Joachim!
I was sort of in the same boat as Phil Jack. Took a succession of hits on the personal side of life and when I pick up the guitar it just feels like a somewhat heavy piece of wood. I have a feeling it will be a little time before that resolves itself, but it should be good raw source material for a guy learning to speak through the blues, haha!

I think Grampa has confused me with Jack. Let me clear this up: Jack is the one who posts videos and can play the guitar. I got in about 9 hours. I worked on a couple of new things, but the bulk of my time was spent working on the same handful of things I've been focused on for a while. The good news is I'm starting to see some improvement. Certain things have suddenly become easier to play and I'm remembering how to play things I haven't played in a while.
Also, I got together with another guitarist again (it's been a few weeks) and we made far less mistakes. We're also starting to be able to push through mistakes and not start the songs over every time we screw up.
One of these days I should try something from MBYCU and see if it's any easier to play. That would be a good test.

Think I played every day but one this past week, but nothing organized enough to call "practice". Still kind of on the "Total Rock Guitar" kick. Actually did some acoustic strumming - boy do those strings hurt the old fingertips. Did not get to go to the lake for our 4th of July US Holiday - it's still flooded (sewer system pumps are still submerged and walkways to boat docks still underwater)... At least my shoulder seems to be steadily improving!

I'll edit to correct, and apologies to you both.

Well being I am on vacation I am posting late. Been getting about an hour a day. Working on Stormy Monday trying to smooth my transition into the G9 chord. Also found a video for a tbone walker luck been working on.
My vacation rig is my strat plugged into my portable pod using a Bluetooth receiver to the aux in and using wired headphones out. I am using my Bluetooth guitar connections instead of cables also.

Joachim I think I sent a connection request to you in jamkazam. Maybe after my vacation we can give it a try.
