Well I actually played some guitar this week, believe it or not. Worked on the opening 8-bar solo for that song from the challenge. Got it going pretty good; I made a video but Griff doesn't want anyone posting his yet-to-be-released stuff in any public place. If you'd like to see it PM me and I'll show you the "unlisted" YouTube video - could always use some feedback on my bends There's plenty of rhythm stuff to learn, it's a pretty cool chord progression with plenty of rhythmic variation - from whole notes to triplets and everything in between. I guess the next webinar is Tuesday - there's a long solo and we'll learn the first half of it this week.

Another fairly sparse week for me, somewhere around 4 hours total. Nevertheless, I still feel like I'm making progress. Still focusing on articulation of short phrases and more conscious awareness of what my picking hand is up to. And interesting thing I did this week was to come up with a bluesy phrase that (initially) was very difficult to play and I spent a few minutes most days trying to make it sound musical/lyrical. Soon I'll have my very own lick!

Man, these weeks are going by way too fast. I got in about 9 hours. Worked on some Jazz Blues solos and made little exercises out of the difficult parts. Also, did a lot of rhythm practice playing the chords to songs with a metronome. I've always been fascinated by how Jazz guitarists play rhythm with so much chord movement. For anybody who's interested, I just uploaded a blog post on how I would approach getting started with Jazz guitar if I could do it over. How get started with Jazz Guitar.I gotta send Jack a PM to watch out his video and check out his bends.

That happened to me with a solo arrangement of a song I put together a few months ago. I still can't play it. Last week I spent a lot of time on a little lick I came up with (I say it's mine but it's probably something I heard at one time). I couldn't play it smoothly and clearly when I tried to put it in a solo. But it's well worth the effort.

Thought I'd been rolling along pretty well for a few weeks, then got busy the end of this week, and didn't pick up the guitar for three straight days. Boy, I hate that! Gotta get it going again. Still on the rock fixation.

The end of it is a short phrase that I lifted right out of P&J, just that in P&J it's an open position lick where I'm playing it up the neck a ways, which is part of the difficulty.

Jack, I'd love to see the video as well.
I started on the next lesson in MBYCU with the study Eight-nar Boogie. And a lot of noodling/improvising, trying to work in some of John's suggestions into my playing. I try to work in one of two of them into my playing each week.

Those 8-bar Blues always remind me of Ray Charles, Country music from the '50s and '60s, and Peter Green. Great job.

Got lots of playing in last week - especially as I had my gig night on the Wednesday (image below).
It was a nother good evening and I'm certainly starting to feel more comfortable with being in front of people playing guitar. We played 8 tracks. I messed up two of them slightly, but I think it wasn't too obvious
Got some nice feedback too - my rhythm work with the drum was "spot on" when we did Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" opening. And apparently, we were well balanced audio wise so all the various parts could be heard - which was sheer luck, but glad it was so
This week I'm working on some Truefire pieces - one of which has a Lead and Rhythm part, so hope to record them both and splice them together for a video at some point. As it's Easter hols for the kids I don't yet know if I'll have more/less evening time to work on these
Side note - played less over the weekend as I was ill, but feeling better today so hope my practice routine will increase this week
BONUS PIC
While looking for the pic above I found the following one. It was taken at the end-of-term live show. A pro photographer had been asked to take photos while bands were onstage performing. I had no idea he took this shot until after the event when he showed it to me (yes, I bought a copy). Absolutly love it. It's me in the moment of playing!

Glad you liked it There's a very long main solo which I guess we'll start learning tomorrow - I have a feeling there will be some bends to criticize in there
