The last couple of weeks I haven't had much motivation to practice. Fortunately, my enthusiasm perked up again on Friday. I watched a video and took the time to figure out the chord accompaniment that Frank Vignola played with Jimmy Bruno on a song I've been working on, the Jazz standard "Body and Soul." I learned more about chord voicings, progressions, moving bass lines, moving inner voices, and voice leading than I have from any other single source. Maybe a better way of putting it is that all the little bits and pieces of playing chord accompaniment that I've been trying to learn finally came together by doing this one exercise. I'm thankful that we have access to videos now-a-days because I would never have been able to do this by ear alone. I needed the visuals to get an idea of where his fingers were on the fretboard. I can usually figure out simple single note lines by ear, but chord voicings are another thing altogether. My ear is just not developed enough for that. I'm still struggling with that Phil Keaggy stretching exercise I talked about a few weeks ago. I can't do it cleanly yet (and maybe never will). However, it has helped immensely with making some other chord shapes easier to play. So I'm going to continue working on it. It only takes about 3 minutes to do. Maybe if my enthusiasm continues I'll get around to making a video.

Holy crap, I went 20 days without getting anything done!
In the week through Feb 02 I only had about 6-7 hours, and even went a whole day with no reps. Slow progress.

Well bout same for me 1 hour a day with some just grab guitar time. Instructor has me working on a riff from Honky Tonk but I have to change to different keys and play it in the 1 , 4, and 5th positions and adjust it as needed to fit. For example its a 2 bar riff, when I use it over the 5th I have to shorten it to 1 bar. Transcendance lol
His point is to use what we learn and apply it to other songs!
Still working on Born Under Bad Sign, I need to get refocused again. I also started on Merry Had. Little Lamb today using my Fender access.
I have 2 new equipment items coming. 1 a poly tuner I bought open box, and 2 a wireless guitar connection X2 tired of being tangled in chords.

Rich, it sounds like you found yourself a damn good teacher. That's like finding a good auto mechanic or a needle in a haystack.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who's not terribly inspired these days I started a new workout program, it was a gazillion below zero for several days, I also had a rock in my shoe and the sun was in my eyes...no way I could get anything done on guitar I signed up for the next challenge at that other site, which is Pride and Joy by Stevie. Hopefully that will get me back into it.
