Okay, after what seemed like hundreds of attempts I have a recording of Alone at Midnight from the Jazzin' The Blues lesson book. I'm sure this will get easier the more I do it, but it has been a struggle! soundcloud.com/tomdorsey-1/output

Tommy,
Way too cool, man! I love it. Really nice tone on that one. And you're right - they get easier and better the more you record. My only input would be that you're ever so slightly ahead of the beat - especially so in the first 30 seconds or so of it. Having done the recording thing, I think this is all "stage fright", and will get better the more you record.
So was this with your Behringer unit? Did you use modeling software? You obviously recorded over the rhythm track (the verbal intro and count-in was a giveaway). I'd like to give you the assignment of learning to edit this out using Garageband! You'll be a power user before you know it! Great first effort!

Thanks, Bruce. I had tried to edit out the count-in, but wound up deleting the entire track. That was not what I wanted! I'll get it figured out. I just wanted to get my first post done.
The Berhinger Guitar Link was used, but not their modeling software. I had a time trying to get it to work, so I used Garageband. After looking at some on-line tutorials I can't imagine ever using all that Garageband has to offer. It's pretty cool.

Tommy, That was terrific. Certainly better than my 1st upload. (The bar is being raised here fast). I didn't notice any timing issues, but Bruce is more familiar with this material than I am. You managed to get a very cool jazz tone that I really like. I don't want to see this turn into a mutual admiration society - but I liked that a lot. The tune itself is just beautiful. Did John G. write that? I'm chomping at the bit to get "Jazzin' the Blues" after hearing Bruce and now you. But, I need to control myself and stay focused. I'm still fighting the urge to learn everything at once. Phil PS. Do you by any chance have a brother named Jimmy?

Thank you, Phil and Joachim, and tbone. I was hesitant to post, but glad I did. I will become more comfortable the more I do it. Heck, maybe someday I'll even get up the nerve to play live, face to face, in person, one on one, with someone else in the room!
Phil, I do have a brother but his name is John. When I was in junior high I had a friend in a couple classes whose name was Glen Miller. Teachers really enjoyed have Tommy Dorsey and Glen Miller in their classrooms!

Tommy that was excellent! I was too busy enjoying the music to think about any technical stuff - and that's about the highest compliment I can give anyone! I've got to get out that Jazzin' the Blues book and start on it myself, I didn't realize there were such good songs in there. I know what you mean about learning to edit recordings - one of my songs had an extra 30 seconds of silence at the end because I didn't know how to edit it out lol.

Those weren't music education classes were they? Yeah, Garageband has lots of features, for sure. Phil - I think we all fight that "learn everything at once" bug. Tbone - Tommy recorded the lead part, the rhythm part was from the CD with the book. I think we'll get him playing both parts, maybe even makin' split screen videos, in no time at all! Bruce : )

Bruce, I may record the rhythm part as well one day, but I'm not sure that I'm up to the video challenge! I was able to figure out how to delete the count in. What's the next assignment?!
Jack, thank you. It took a number of takes before I had one I was willing to share. It seems my fingers began to stumble all over the strings once I hit "record." The Jazzin'The Blues book is great. I may record some of the earlier lessons as well. It will give me some valuable experience at recording, and I can always use more practice on the guitar.

Tommy, it's a really funny how pressing "record" can make you fumble around like that. I would drop the pick, or feel I held the guitar in a wrong way, etc., but it's getting better now. Still, if someone tries to watch me playing, I immediately start playing like I just got my guitar yesterday...

It seems my fingers began to stumble all over the strings once I hit "record." I think it gets better once you've made a bunch of recordings and start to realize that hitting the record button is just the first step in what's likely to be a very long process. The worst for me is when I get three-quarters of the way through a song without any major screw ups and start thinking "Oh my God, could this be the one?!?!" Nooooo, I just totally forgot what I was playing LOL.

Jack, several times I did as you, and got about 3/4 through the tune and started realizing I was almost done. As soon as I started thinking about playing I flubbed!
