To JohnG and everyone else. Just wanted to make you aware that my upload of More Minor Blues, where I use the official backing tracks sold by John, seems to have a copyright claim (all other backing tracks to this point have been fine). The claim says that I am allowed to use it for YouTube - just very surprised that it was flagged as such. It claims the owner is "JW Media Music" and refers to a track it's related to (which can be found on YouTube). So far it's not an issue as I didn't get a "strike" for it and the owner "allows the content to be used on YouTube" - just hope it doesn't come back and bite me later on! I have attached screenshots:

Slightly off topic, but the copyrights issues has ruined guitar education. If SRV was a teenager now, instead of listening and copying Jimy licks he would have played licks "in the style of Jimi" and we would not have had one of the greatest guitarist

I can't remember getting a copyright claim on any of the lesson material, so that's odd. I don't know, you're in the UK and I'm in the US so I suppose it's somewhat different. It doesn't make any difference as long as you're not monetizing your channel. I get copyright claims on all the cover songs I do, the only ones I had problems with were the Jimi Hendrix stuff and anything by the Eagles - they block those videos worldwide so I had to put them on Dropbox in order to share them.

Curious. Did you listen to that "Down These Mean Streets" track it references? It is a minor blues that sounds a WHOLE lot like "More Minor Blues". I think this stuff is all done by their (Youtube's) bots. I've never had any type of warnings or notifications on any of the lesson material I've posted, either.

Since the copyright holder allows it all this means is that you can't monetize the video. However, this stuff is getting out of hand. The only thing that sounds similar is the guitar playing the arpeggiated chords in the background. The melody is not even remotely similar. Here's a link to the copyrighted song:

It's weird that you're told to "steal" licks from the people you listen to - but now modern day software seems to say "NO"! Ugh!

Agreed - I just fail to see how they can claim copyright when it doesn't even sound similar? And the time instances that were highlighted to me seems to be the *whole* piece... Stupid computers!

Yeah, this is the result of algorithms at work. Not human beings. If this was a serious matter I'm sure you could fight it and win. I got a copyright violation a couple of years ago for a video I did playing a guitar solo I transcribed. I challenged it saying that a solo can't be copyrighted. They never responded to my challenge so it was lifted after 30 days.

Try using in the style of in your title and adjust the tempo in the daw, the algorithms tend to use key word and bpm test to help identify copyright infringments.
