Dear all, may I ask what have you used to learning the Blues, on the top of John books?
Thanks Carmine

If you are taking personal lessons from JohnG then the only other thing you need is to listen to a lot of Blues. Listen to people like Eddie Taylor, Lonnie Johnson, Magic Sam, Otis Rush, Buddy Guy, Mighty Joe Young, and the 3 Kings (BB, Albert, and Freddie). If some of these names aren't familiar to you look them up they are all great Blues players.

JG's book "Blues Rhythms You Can Use" can be used in conjunction with BYCU (probably at least once you're past the early "beginner" tunes in BYCU), although you can probably jump right into the "stretch rhythm" that he starts with, even as a complete beginner. Are you completely new to guitar, or do you already play some? Do you play any other instruments or have any music background? Do you have specific interests (acoustic blues, electric, blues-rock, jazz blues, etc)? Probably someone on the forum has used tried just about every book or video out there if you have questions regarding some specific course or book. I don't think anything even comes close to the complete, graded and progressive nature of BYCU for learning blues guitar. If you're working with an instructor (especially JG himself), he is is probably your best source to suggest appropriate supplemental materials for you. Ditto what Phil said about listening to lots of blues. I'd shout out SRV and John Lee Hooker (two personal favorites that I "grew up" on). Also Junior Wells and Paul Butterfield (though neither was a guitarist).

Oh jeez there's a gazillion other courses out there and it really depends on your personal tastes as far as what you might be interested in. Personally, Jeff McErlain's "Solo Electric Blues" course on the Truefire website is a favorite.
