MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!Well, I had a good week of practice - achieved my 6 days in the week and managed to record some stuff too! Christmas brought me some effects pedals to play with and a new leather guitar strap for Ruby This week I'm aiming for another 6 days of practice with some BYCU - More Minor Blues, an AM piece and another from the Solo Blues Guitar as well as some Improv attempts and Rhythm work!

Missed several days (3) this week due to houseguests, holidays, and such. My son and his fiancé will be staying here for a few days later this week, so probably will be similar this coming week. I am resolved not to let a few days off turn into a few months off, though! No new geetar toys for Christmas this year. Hope everyone had a great holidays!

I also skipped several days due to family visits. Maybe tonight I will pick up where I left, with different things from my lesson - mainly some walking-bass stuff right now.
Merry x-mas everyone!
Today I am back at work; I wouldn't mind a longer vacation. Bruce, how's the first vacation as retired?

Merry Christmas everyone! I had a very slack week - just felt lazy and wanted to enjoy the season Did get the third solo for "Backdoor Santa" recorded and finished up that song. Got some new headphones for Christmas, the Beyerdynamic DT 900 PRO X Open-Back. Compared to my Sennheiser closed-back, they lack that punch in the bass, but the midrange has tremendously more detail and everything is spread out across the soundstage much more noticeably. Now I'll be able to notice even more mistakes in my playing I'm deciding what to work on next; maybe "More than a Feeling" by Boston, or maybe "Tonight" by Ozzy. Boston would be MUCH easier lol. Or probably some other song will catch my eye in the meantime.

Today I am back at work; I wouldn't mind a longer vacation. Bruce, how's the first vacation as retired? "My teacher keeps telling me to find someone to play with, but I just don't have the time or energy for it. He is constantly reminding me it's the only way to make real progress, though." Joachim, the holidays without work looming all over them are a true joy. I truthfully hope you get to experience it some day. I dealt with the same issues of demanding work, long hours, working weekends and holidays, etc. for many years. When you are living with that, you've got to keep the guitar playing in some perspective. You may not be able to make "real progress", and may just have to enjoy what you can (and try to hold on to what skills you've developed). Demands on your time may fluctuate some over the seasons and years, allowing you more time to enjoy hobbies for some periods. Even in retirement, I personally have not found any desire to dedicate the time and effort to develop professional level musicianship. I'm not looking for another job or career. I am also not looking to join a band, with the attendant time commitments and expectations. I do this for fun - just like the golf I've taken up. (I also don't have any expectations for professional level golfing!) Maybe all of this will change in a few years time, and if so, I'll re-evaluate my commitment and expectations then. In the meantime, I'd encourage you to do what I do: spend as much time as you reasonably can on this hobby, but realize that other things in your life do have to take precedence. Realize also that you (like me) did not spend endless hours as a teenager learning guitar, so our ceiling is only going to be so high. This does not in any way mean that you can't find joy and creative outlet from music and guitar playing - and that has to be the main goal. Anyway, I hope this rambling message helps some. Keep playing when you can. Don't be guilt-ridden that you can't do more.
