Not much to report here. Was out of town most of the week, which equated to not much music/guitar playing. Hope to get more back in the swing this week, though we're heading into the annual holiday rush season. Hope everyone is doing well.

I wound up with a bug bite or something that got infected and had to have a small procedure to take care of it. The resulting wound is directly under where my guitar strap hangs so I've not been able to play at all since Monday morning. Hoping I can resume towards the end of the week but that's not certain. I haven't figured out a way to electric strapless without getting twisted up enough that it gets painful after a few minutes. So I'm on injured reserve for the time being.

Hope you heal up quick Grampa! I just messed around with "Backdoor Santa" by BB King a bit. Got the ol' Sheridan II off the wall for the first time in a while I've got the first solo memorized, it's really nice. The rhythm part is extremely simple, I'm hoping to come up with some variations to add a bit of interest (since there's no vocals on the backing track). I've only been practicing a fraction as much as usual, which is kind of nice as I've been at it pretty hard this year and need a bit of relaxation.

TLDR: wpb did his week long panto stint, enjoyed it - and got a guitar for Christmas!!!
Wow - what a difference a week makes...
Well, panto shows finished last night! I lost 3lbs in a week through stress and worry behind the scenes of the performances (didn't realise it impacted me so much). Am *really* glad I did it, gained a wealth of live-performance experience and pushed myself to play pieces in a band that I may have never touched othewise. Learning to deal with mistakes and adjust "live" is something I don't think I could try to learn in the home environment. Being "alert" for 2 hours (with a 20 min interval in the middle) is another experience to appreciate - knowing when the next piece is, what it will be, checking guitar tunning/settings in that time - and remembering you're there to support the actors/singers/dancers. My amp master volume was used as a foldback for me to hear my own sound, while the audio went down the XLR cable to the main mixing desk to be balanced with the rest of the audio and pumped into the auditorium - another awesome experience!!!
One of my most treasured moments was when the Prince and Cinderella dance to the piece ''Hero" by Enrique Iglesias - I had the strat sounding like an acoustic guitar and played a verse long guitar solo! This was nerve-wrecking, but an unbeatable moment to be holding the dance musically with the band. The guy doing the professional mixing turned me up for this part and even added reverb for me - sounded AMAZING!!!
I have crazily agreed to do the musical in July This will be a 10 piece band with brass instruments (and a flute, I think) and set musical performance pieces I will need to learn and play as written. This worries me greatly - but hope it will really push me to improve my playing and get me more comfortable playing in a live setting.
Christmas Presents!!!
With Christmas round the corner (and my birthday very shortly after that) the wife approved a guitar purchase!!!
I went for a different tone and style which I have never played, a telecaster style
This is now my favourite guitar It's an Aria 615-MK2 Nashville, Ruby Red - and it's AMAZING!!!! It's called a "Nashville" as it has (what was termed) the "Nashville Mod" - where a strat single coil pickup was placed between the two standard Telecaster pickup placements to remove buzz and add more meat in the mid tones. You can turn off this "middle" pickup by pulling out the tone dial - so LOADS of tone options on this baby. Loved the red and as it's Ruby colour, allow me to present my new baby "Ruby" to you...

Wannaplay, congratulations on the show - sounds like a fantastic playing experience! The new tele is a beauty, too. Now you've been around here long enough to know that when it comes to new geetars, we don't want no stinkin' photos - we want VIDEO!
