Unusually productive week for me. Got some scratch bed tracks laid down for a potential holiday recording--just a very short and stripped down version of a traditional Christmas song.
And last night I consumed my first 1.5 adult beverages in many months (maybe all of 2022) and had some nice "playing for fun" time. I have an original concoction that for more than a year I had slated for this year's holiday project. It hasn't been coming along all that well but it sounded pretty good with my beer hearing aids on, ha. Reminds me that along with all the head knowledge, visualization, and strength/dexterity building I shouldn't forget about being a little more relaxed while playing. Maybe with that in mind it will be ready to go for 2023.
I did manage to play every day as well even though it was a stressful week. Part of my grand plan to retire early was so I could get myself in geographic proximity with enough free time to help look after my dad. Despite my best efforts he still keeps getting older and although slow, his declines are steady. Reminds me it's getting to be time to stop putting things off for another day. Hopefully that permeates into my guitar hobby.

Had a pretty good week here, too. Probably played for an hour or more every day. I feel like I'm slowly getting some dexterity back. I'll give "Guitar Aerobics" a shout out - it's funny that just having a daily "assignment" has succeeded in getting me to pick up the guitar again, and then once I have picked it up, it's easy to just go ahead and play some more! My wife and I have still been golfing (or going to the driving range) two or three times a week, which eats up a pretty good amount of time. I've enjoyed the activity, but she usually beats me by 10 or more strokes every time we play (and I'm playing from the front tees with her)! She was on her high school golf team, but hasn't really played since then, where I really just started in late June having never played before. It's really frustrating, and I feel like I ought to be seeing some progress, but there is just no telling where that ball is going to go when I hit it, though there is clearly an inexplicable strong attraction to nearby bodies of water, as well as sand traps... Anyway, I see a lot of parallels between learning golf and learning guitar. It takes a long time and lots of repetition to see any improvement, and short regular practice is probably more beneficial than a weekly marathon session (though golf does not lend itself well to short daily practice sessions). Anyway, she's been having some shoulder pain, so we will probably take the week off from golfing, allowing time for my ego to heal as well.

Hello everyone! Pretty slow week for me! My wife is 32 weeks into her pregnancy so I need to spend more time doing chores and taking care of her. Still working on Lesson 6 from BYCU and also learning Norwegian Wood from the Beatles. One of my all time favourite songs.

I had an okay week, just working on getting the "Mr. Crowley" solos up to speed. There's an extremely fast ascending lick at the beginning of the first solo, and a fast repeated lick at the beginning of the second one as well as a fast hammer-on lick in the middle of it - those are the 3 parts that are giving me problems. Suppose I should practice them in isolation. I've got the rhythm and keyboard parts going pretty well, just need a bit of polishing up and in a few hundred takes I should have a good recording Started working a bit on "Lay it Down" by Ratt, and on keyboard "Carol of the Bells." Bruce I haven't played golf in a few years but it used to be my main hobby. It is a lot like guitar insofar as it takes years of practice just to get terrible at it lol. I would suggest taking lessons as there are some things about the golf swing which are rather counter-intuitive.

Still trying to get a couple of chord melody tunes up to speed. Each has some little part that causes me to stumble. I still haven't learned to keep going after a mistake. I stop and start over which is exactly what I shouldn't do. It's frustrating when you know what you should do but can't seem to make yourself do it.
I went to a driving range once when I was 18 or 19. I immediately realized that golf was not for me. Unfortunately, I never came to that realization when comes to the guitar.

I would suggest taking lessons as there are some things about the golf swing which are rather counter-intuitive. Jack, we had about half a dozen lessons, then the instructor told us we just need to go play a lot, and call back if we felt like we needed more lessons! We've only played the full course about 10 times, and have played a local par 3 course about a similar number of times. I'm probably just too impatient to see some improvement. Most everything I read says it takes 6 to 12 months just to learn to hit the ball consistently. I'm suspicioning that it probably takes even longer when you are a "senior" beginner. Another way that golf is like guitar is that there is no end of Youtube instructors and lessons...
