Here's the latest collaboration project I participated in. The tune is "Bag's Groove" by Milt Jackson. My solo is somewhere in the middle. I'll have to remember to move the beer can out of view for the next video.

That was so cool, Phil! And your solo was very tasteful, and played in a very smooth and relaxed style.

Way cool, Phil! I love these collaborations, looks like a really fun project to be a part of. Loved your solo - great feel and tone! Personally, I thought the beer can was a nice touch, too.

Thanks for the kind words. As usual you guys couldn't hear what I intended to play. Given the opportunity I would have re-done my part. I don't know about the other participants, but my solo was definitely not improvised. I can't improvise to save my life. This was worked out and practiced dozens of times. The first 3 bars we're taken from a Duke Robillard lesson and the rest came from ideas floating around in my head. Most likely things I've heard before combined with things I picked up from John G., the Mickey Baker book and other sources. I'm happy with the solo. Just not completely satisfied with how I played it. These collaborations are a lot of fun. The amazing thing is that nobody knows what anybody else is playing yet the solos flow pretty seamlessly from one to the other. Everybody is given the backing track and a specific time to start their solos. That's all the info we have. Hearing the final product is always a pleasant surprise. Thanks again for listening and for the encouragement. Phil
