Here's my rendition of "Hard Edge Blues". This one was a real challenge for me and took me 3 weeks to get it to where I felt comfortable recording it. It's not perfect, but I want to move on. The more I listen to it the more flaws I can hear. In about 6 months I want to go back and re-record these and compare the results. This will be my last recording for a while. I'll be away from the guitar for a couple of weeks and when I get back I'll start on "Blue Sixths". I did "Preaching Gospel" out of sequence, which was probably not a good idea. I don't think "Blue Sixths" is going to be as tough as "Hard Edge" was. However, the final 4 in BYCU look like they are going to be very difficult and I'm sure I'll working on those for quite a long time. Please point out anything that can be improved upon. I know some of those bends didn't quite make the grade. soundcloud.com/jack_e_blue/15-bycu-hard-edge-bluesPhil

Wow, Phil! You got that strat screamin' and cryin', for sure, on that one! Very nicely done. Man, you might even steal away one of Joachim's groupies! To me timing sounds good, bends are mostly good - even put some vibrato on some of them. You've set the bar pretty high.

Thank you kindly, Bruce. It looks like bends are going to be a life-long challenge. When I was putting away my guitar and stuff I realized that I never opened the book. This is the 1st time I ever recorded anything without having the tab in front of me as a crutch. I'm more excited that my old brain was able to memorize that tune than about anything else. Looking forward to hearing some more Jazzin' the Blues from you. Phil

It sounds great - as usual! Your recordings are a great inspiration; I hope I will play the later studies like that sometime.
I agree with Bruce, you deserve some groupies after this!

That sounded great, Phil. It's nice when you know the tune and don't need to read the music. For me, it seems like I can feel the music more, plus I can work on technique more rather than watching the music. Thank you for sharing your recordings with us.

The funny thing is that I didn't even realize I wasn't looking at the tab until I went to put my stuff away and the book wasn't there. Phil

Sounded great, when we getting together to jam a little? What recording software you using? Hey, Rich. I didn't know you were a member of this forum. Bienvenido! I'm going on leave for a month. See you when I get back. I'm using Reaper, but I have a lot to learn about it. Phil

When you get back well have to try to get together and jam. Have a good vacation. Rich, Reaper is free for 60 days (full working version - not some trial BS) and then it's $60.00. It is well worth the 60 bucks. It's as good as just about anything out there. Check it out. If you've used some other high level recording software the learning curve should be pretty flat. Check out the "Lick of the Week" on the "LESSONS" tab on the main page. I haven't had the time to work through any of them, but I listened to some last week and they are very interesting. You may end up buying some of John Ganapes' books - top notch stuff. See you soon, Phil

I'll check it out. I found a BLCU video lesson 1 on YouTube Texas blues. I already worked it out, sound is awesome SRV feel. I tried that lessons tab but on my ipad it doesn't want to open. When get back to work you need to try out my pocket pod, still trying to figure it out but found a really nice blues preset. I need to try through my silver face head. I'll let you borrow for the weekend for test, if you like.

Rich,
Buy a copy of BYCU. It costs $13-$15 and comes with a CD and an incredible amount of information for a book that's less than 100 pages. There is no better bang for your buck out there. Also John G's "Blues Rhythms You can Use" is infinitely better than the "50 Blues Rhythms You Must Know or You'll Die and Go to Hell" DVD that I bought a while back.
