Sort of a rough week for me too. I missed two days of practice and didn't do any playing for fun. I'm afraid that trend is going to continue/increase for a while. I think I'm going to have to pack up my music PC next weekend, and might not have the wherewithal to do any recording again until late September.
The current pair of BLYCU licks are killing me. They force me to do some things movement-wise that I've always found ways to avoid/cheat around in the past, and the repetitive nature just makes it that much worse. Frustrating at the moment but assuming I stick with them until I can do them comfortably at tempo it'll be a pretty substantial advance in my technical skill. This whole section of the book has been like that, but these most recent two have crossed the "on steroids" threshold.

I had a pretty good week as far as hours spent practicing - probably 12 1/2 or so. Progress on Little Wing is slow though, I need to buckle down and just work on the problem areas in isolation. Also, I've been practicing the intro by playing along with Jimi, and even if I've got my guitar turned up loud and Jimi turned way down, he still covers up enough of my mistakes to make my bad playing sound "okay" - now I've switched to playing along with a metronome and I think that's going to help a lot. It's also much nicer to have some good solid clicks to play along with as it helps my timing a lot. There are just so many little details in this song - he's always going back-and-forth between swing and straight time, you've got one part that's loud-and-clear and the next bit he plays so softly you can barely hear it, which makes me wonder is that a single note he's playing? Or a part of a chord? So I'll play a single note but that sounds too thin, maybe try it a different way, and on and on and on Also the style, with the use of the thumb and the constant hammer-ons and pulloffs, it's something Jimi uses often in his songs and he's an absolute master of it, yet I hardly ever use those techniques, so it's a long process. I got the solo memorized and have been working on that some - should work on it more. Also the glockenspiel, I've got the intro and first two verses going (not memorized), but the timing needs work. Maybe with the metronome it will help out. Here's a nice breakdown of the intro if anyone's interested:

I actually don't have to say anything but this was just another bad week in terms of guitar playing for me. I'm just to busy with everything else...
I second what Tbone said, but at least wanted to let everyone know I haven't dropped off the face of the Earth. Having to work this weekend (last time I'll ever have to say that!). I can, though, see a bright light at the end of the tunnel - only 10 more days to retirement! I promise I'll pick my guitar back up then...

Had a good week. Thursday I recorded my parts for a collaboration I'm participating in on Frank Vignola's Truefire channel. I think there are 18 guitarists participating from several different countries. It's truly amazing what is possible today. I'm very happy with the 8-bar solo I came up with. I follow Frank Vignola so I wanted it to be perfect. However, after practicing it repeatedly, doing audio only practice recordings, getting it right in the pocket and laid back, it all went to hell as soon as I turned on the friggin' camera. I tensed up, struggled to get through it, rushed a couple of parts, flubbed the dynamics and subtleties I practiced. I did about 6 takes and finally gave up and just sent off the last take. The guy putting it all together said it sounded really good, but he couldn't hear what I wanted to play. This week my plan is to start going through all the songs I haven't played in months. The challenge is to see if I figure them out without referring to a lead sheet.

My week was about average, working on some solos to go over blue bossa, reviewed Cissy Strut, and combo reviewing instrumentals. Bout it here, we are discussing dates for a show not that we have anything clean enough lol

Sorry, a little late to this one.
I've been plugging away non-stop. Last few weeks I am averaging 1-2 hours a night, 6 days a week. Working through various books and topics and trying to improve overall.
My band are looking to rehearse again soon - perhaps next month, which will be fun! And I'm doing a one-off guitar lesson next Friday in the hopes of discussing improvising/phrasing over a blues backing track.
NTM - I recorded the next Total Rock Guitar piece "Atlantis" - see the dedicated thread for that.
Onwards I say... onwards!!!
