For the next BLYCU challenge, we'll move on to licks 50 & 51. For this guitar pro rendition: bars 1 & 2 are lick 51, bars 3 & 4 are lick 50, bars 5 & 6 are lick 52, and bars 7 & 8 are lick 53. BLYCU Chapter 4 210516.mp3 (932.16 KB) In keeping with a little bit slower pace, we'll make the due date on this one Sunday, June 6 (so it's 3 weeks, instead of two). Note the Guitar Pro rendition includes licks 52 and 53 WHICH ARE NOT part of this challenge (but will be for the following challenge).

The ending of lick 51 is a familiar one from "Cheap runs".

Cool stuff there Joachim, that's some challenging stuff and you're doing great on it

I'll second Jack on the "challenging stuff". Nicely done, Joachim. I've, unfortunately, not had a chance to pick up the guitar all week. Life should be simplifying in 24 days, when I retire... I won't have anything to post for this go around. If you and Grampa are good, we'll move on to licks 52 and 53 (included in the above Guitar Pro example) for the next round.

Licks 52 and 53 for next time (3 weeks?) sounds good to me!

So I've obviously missed another deadline. Still working on it. I know this excuse is getting old, but the material in this section is forcing me to retool facets of my technique, which is a terribly slow process. I'm having to change up my basic fretting hand position, finger choices, and demand a lot more mobility out of my index finger. That it's mostly down at the third fret adds to the challenge.

Yeah, this is some challenging stuff, allright. I've really decide that this go through of the book is my initial exposure to it, but I fully intend to go back through it in the future to really try to absorb more of it. I don't think this is the kind of book you make one pass through and you've got all the benefit from it that you are going to get.

A rare treat: a first take (i.e., apologies in advance ). I got something messed up in the mix, the reamp guitar is too spread from the "live" in the stereo field. Sounds sorty chorus-y. Sorry I'm late again. soundcloud.com/grampalerxst/blycu-50-51

That was pretty cool, Grampa! The lick starting at around '33 is kind of weird - there is a change of tempo that keeps throwing me off.
I always envy the cool tone you have for these recordings!

Thanks, Joachim. I tend to lose my grounding around that point (even worse with a cold first take) and I float around independent of the rhythm until the last two licks. I'd spent so much time trying to get 51 down and 50 down better, everything after that was a bit of a mess. I feel like I'm just now ready to start working that one up to record, but I'm behind on the current assignment and will have to just let it go.

I think that sounds pretty cool, Grampa. I thought the "playing around with the timing" thing sounded pretty good.

Sounding good, Joachim. You nailed licks 52 and 53, which I've found deceivingly hard with all those repeating triplet-triplet figures. I've had my left wrist aggravated after scrubbing down my boat last Sunday, and have had to lay off guitar all week. The wrist is definitely doing better, and I'm hoping to pick up the guitar again in the next few days, but I'll be late with this one... At least the boat looked really good. I'll try to post the next challenge (licks 54 and 55) tomorrow.

That was well done, Joachim. You had the current two very clear and consistent, which is impressive to me!
