Nicely played, Joachim. You made it look easy. Rhythm part was really smooth, too. Are you using Phi & Jack's backing tracks on these?

Joachim, Playing that study in proper time, getting all those notes to fit in to the allotted space, and not make it sound like you're struggling is an extremely difficult challenge. I was really impressed with your rhythm playing on this. Like Bruce said it was smooth. Playing good rhythm is its own art form.
Every time you post one of these studies I go back and listen to what I did and cringe. This was the most difficult study in the book for me. I should have left it for last because it stalled my progress thru the book so much. I eventually just moved on and for a long time I used that study as a warm up exercise everyday starting slowly and building up the speed. I never did record it again after all that and I certainly couldn't play it today (or then) half as well as you did.
Bruce: Jack did those backing tracks without any help from me. I just made them available to everybody with his permission.

Cool. I agree with Phil :Playing that study in proper time, getting all those notes to fit in to the allotted space, and not make it sound like you're struggling is an extremely difficult challenge. It's easy to make this a trainwreck. This was the first study which made me wonder if there's any sense in focussing on the studies so much instead on the other content of the lessons, as I'd never come up with such lines nor enjoyed playing them. I just felt that noodling led me to nowhere, which obviously isn't true - however, tzhat's how I felt about it. After this lessons, I worked through the book until study no. 10, I think, but the playing got weakere and weaker because I started to rush through the book in order just to finish it, as if it was a rite of passage I had to pass. Big mistake! You're doing the right thing here, Kudos for pulling through and sticking to your goals! This is exactly how I approached this book. It makes me feel better to see that somebody else did the same (wrong) thing. But I had a good excuse, I was trying to catch up with Jack.

Congratulations Joachim! That song is definitely a right of passage in that book Great job. Unlike Phil I'm not going to go back and listen to my version of it, it's too early in the morning for that much cringing lol. Now that you've conquered that you can take on pretty much any classic rock or blues song, well short of Joe Bonamassa maybe

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I guess it was part stubbornness that made start over on this book, and just having some fixed practice laid out for me is very helpful; right now I don't have time and energy to pursue stuff on my own.

...and here I thought you were older, but wiser... how did you manage to reply to my post whilst I'm still typing it?!? Must have something to do with the time shift Well, I'm definitely older. I guess I never mentioned my psychic abilities before.

Awesome playing, Joachim, you’ve got some serious chops. Some day I will reach this book and tackle these songs in solidarity with you guys. I agree with your point about having a fixed practice structure to utilize, I think that’s one of the best points of the Blues You Can Use series. It’s a focused progression that keeps building and challenging, so the guitarist doesn’t necessarily have to do so much due diligence his or herself to continue steadily improving.
