Good video Thanks for sharing. I like these kind of videos. The following kind of relates to this (if you stretch out real far. ) Here's something exemplifies how a talented but not so fast player can hold his own playing with 2 incredibly adept speed demons, Joe Satriani and John Petrucci. Leslie West was an excellent and very influential guitarist (back in my day*) but he wasn't a fast player. In fact, in an interview he said he was simple unable to play any faster. However, what he was able to do was to play very beautiful, lyrical solos. * Pinch harmonics was one of his signatures before Billy Gibbons was on anybody's radar and his tone was incredible. Anyhoo, check out his solo in this video. I'm not saying it's better than Petrucci's or Satch's. Their solos are fantastic. I'm saying it's just as good. BTW, he played several gigs with Satriani and in this one, to surprise West, Satch showed up with a Les Paul, Jr. A guitar that West was famous for playing. That's a pretty good indication of Satch's respect for him.

Rory Gallagher was another guy who, while maybe not big on proper pinch harmonics, incorporated a lot of partial harmonics and chimeyness in his playing. I got exposed to that kind of playing through Alex Lifeson, who says he got it from watching Rory when they were first starting out and opening for him. The only time I ever saw RG wan many years later when the roles were reversed and Rory opened for them on the Signals tour.
Sorry to get off topic.

I saw this on the tubes and thought it had a great message. It did kind of feel like he was a little baggy about his career, but the message of doing what you do is powerful.
I remember reading about guitarist seeing Yngwie Malmsteen and then deciding to just give up the guitar. The reason being they could never play that fast. I came across this quote the other day and i'm sure it's ture or just something the internet made up. But it seemed reverent.
"Don't be a second rate Yngwie Malmsteen be a first rate you" - George Lynch
In my opinion, I feel the guitar is a paint brush and not a race car. create what you want. If that is 60bpm blues it's 300bpm death metal, then do it. Regardless what people say there is no end to the guitar. There is no prize for the best guitarist. It cannot be mastered.
