Here is my take at Double Stop Stomp. soundcloud.com/joachim-dahl-1/doublestopstompIt's not perfect, but good enough to move on, I think. The double stop sequence is a tough nut to crack... I was hoping to include BRYCU 2 as well, but that will take more work before I am ready to put a recording online; in particular I make alot of string noice when my fingers move across the entire fretboard. I am probably sliding my fingers too much into the new positions. I am hoping other new-comers will continue to post recordings as well. Cheers Joachim

Joachim, That swings along nicely and sounds great. If I get real nit-picky I guess I'd say to work a little more on the double stop sequence so you get both notes to sound out a bit more. Other than that, your notes are accurate and clear, and you really captured that swing feel. I'm also hoping than we can motivate more people to post some samples of their playing and bring a little more life to this forum. As a side note - have you checked out some of your "likes" on SoundCloud? There are a couple of very interesting ones. Phil

Thanks Phil! That's not nit-picky at all - I agree... I will re-iterate these recordings in a months time and see if my technique hasn't improved.

Joachim, That sounds very good to me! You are making really good progress. Thanks for sharing that with us! I'm with Phil - I'd love to see more people on the forum, more posts of lessons. I don't think I would have noticed those couple of interesting Soundcloud likes without Phil pointing them out. Bruce

When we post an exercise it might be fun to also list the gear we used.

Good idea. I use an Epiphone Les Paul Plustop Pro, both pickups and full tone. Amp: Fender Super Champ X2 recorded directly via a USB interface on the amp. I am not sure how the USB recording works, it's only a kind of amp emulation, but it's an easy way to record.
The amp is a modeling amp, with many different presets for different genres that sounds great, but with those effects the USB recordings sound abit muddy, so I just record on the clean channel. But I like the amp - it has a nice warm sound, and it's not very loud.

When we post an exercise it might be fun to also list the gear we used. On "More Minor Blues" and "Major Blues" I used a Squier Classic '60s Strat (the only guitar I have) through a Behringer Guitar Link and Native Instruments' AC Combo Box modeling software. I used the neck pick-up on both of those with full tone and the volume backed off to about 7. Since the Guitar Link doesn't have an output volume, I have to control the volume from the guitar or I get popping noises. If you have a Strat then you know that lowering the volume on the guitar also affects the tone. It's especially useful when you want to reduce the amount of distortion or overdrive. After I recorded them I also played around with some EQ (I have no idea what I'm doing) and fine tuned the modeling software from within Reaper until I got a sound I was reasonably happy with. Phil

Hi Joachim, Very interesting. You learn very fast I have the feeling. I am already late This piece is really good. I should try another way of recording myself as the sound I get in the end is not quite the same as what I can hear from the amp itself. Cheers, Big Fab

Thanks for encouragement, Big Fab.
You are progressing nicely yourself - keep practicing, and sharing recordings!
I know how you feel about the recordings; I can get a really cool sound out my amp, which sounds completely bland and muffled once recorded.

You did a great job on that Double Stop Stomp Joachim, very nice.
I'll be buying a Pod Studio one of these days (If I ever get all my current bills paid off lol) so that'll be one more person posting clips and stuff.

I'll be buying a Pod Studio one of these days (If I ever get all my current bills paid off lol) so that'll be one more person posting clips and stuff. Jack, If you are on a tight budget like I am, you might want to try a Behringer Guitar Link for $49.00. I was initially very critical of it on this forum because I couldn't get it to work as advertised. Once I discovered the secret and got it working I love it. It's small, simple, cheap and does the job. It is obviously not in the same league as Line 6 and other higher priced ones, but it is well worth the 50 bucks I paid for it. It comes with Native Instruments modeling software which is very easy to use. You can play the backing track through this software and it even has a slow down dial so you can have total control over the speed of the backing tracks. You can also loop specific segments. All of the recordings I've uploaded except for the 1st 2 were recorded using it. I still still need a lot of work on getting a sound I'm happy with, but I'm slowly learning. It's very convenient and easy to use. Its biggest drawback is that you can't control that output volume from the unit. I control that from the guitar. Phil

Thanks for the tip Phil, but I just ordered one of those Pod Studios (the UX1) so I'll have to be scrambling to pay the credit card bill this month lol. Oh well, what else is new? I've been dying to get started on PC recording and decided to splurge a little bit.

I've been dying to get started on PC recording and decided to splurge a little bit. I see the UX1 for $119.00 on Amazon. That looks like a really nice unit. Now I'm jealous. For what you get for the price it's actually a much much better deal than the Behringer. It even has an XLR mic input. Keep us posted on how you like it and what features you like the most. I may be adding one of these to my wish list. It's never fails to amaze me how this stuff keeps getting better and better at such reasonable prices. You'll be uploading recordings here in no time. Phil

As with most of this stuff, there's a learning curve. Once you get up and running with it, I expect you'll be happy with it. These are basically the same unit, I think, but the UX2 has two inputs instead of one. Let me know if you've got questions, and I can maybe be of some help. Line 6 has some good tutorial videos on their web site (also on Youtube). Bruce

Hi I haven't tried the recording capabilities yet but I just bought a pocket pod from line 6. Sounds great through the head phones and amp outputs, let's you input an external source for backing. I don't like how you select the algorithms thought a bit annoying. The software interface is pretty cool.
