First I must extend apologies to the BLYCU gang. I've hit somewhat of a wall that I've not figured out how to get beyond with these last few Section examples. For some of the first section, the second, and most of the third up to the last three, as I go through my work-up process I hit a point where things sorta click while superimposing them on the backing track. That hasn't happened yet. And to be fair there was another installment in this third section that I butchered really bad. Lick 39 is easy enough to "play" but difficult for me to get to sound like something someone meant to do. 40--I just can't go fast enough. 41--in most ways the hardest of the three, but it's the one I'm closest to being able to play with the backing and make it sound deliberate. I might take a hack at recording something with that one later today. But I might not.
Still spending time every day on the scale sequence of the fortnight. Started a new one this week. I've found it interesting how even relatively small perturbations in playing within a scale introduce fatigue as though it was day one with the major scale all over again. Over two weeks I get acclimated to a sequence to the point fatigue isn't the limiting factor in the endeavor (concentration is). Change the sequence and I'm back to square one spending most of the first week fighting fatigue.
Even though I got a decent amount of practice in every day there have been a lot of distractions. Have some renovations occurring in my house, trying to get some stuff at work finalized, trying to get the last i's dotted and t's crossed so I can get my stupid taxes filed, etc. Then I went and got shot 1 of 2 for C-19 vaccine yesterday morning which had me feeling slightly lethargic last night and so far today. Arm's slightly sore where they jabbed me, but the one break I've had in my favor is zero discomfort holding it up to the fingerboard.

I had kind of a busy week so didn't get as much practice time in as usual, still okay though. I submitted my rough draft of Hotel California to "that other guy" and he said that during the intro, I need to concentrate on playing the important melody notes louder, and the unimportant notes softer. Trouble is, I can barely play the damned thing in the first place much less play it with nuance lol. But I'm working on it. He says I'm rushing the solo, which I personally don't really hear, but that's why you ask other people for feedback - to point out your screw-ups that you're unaware of. Also the part with the double stops, he said to play those on two separate guitars. That has a fair bit of overdrive on it, and played on one guitar the two notes kind of grind against each other, but on separate guitars they sound much smoother together. So I've just been working on getting "final" versions of all the parts recorded. I'm still quite unhappy with my intro part - been playing along with the album a lot. And for the solo I EQ'd the backing track to really bring out the drums and I'm concentrating on just staying in time with them and not rushing ahead. I think my next project will be "Highway Song" by Blackfoot. It's always been a favorite of mine. It has several little solos and then the big outro solo, which is 2 1/2 minutes long (it even has it's own interlude ). So I'm thinking that should keep me busy for a while. Grampa I got my Covid shot a couple of weeks ago - it's funny because when she asked which arm, my first thought was "well lets not screw up the fretting hand, go with the right one I guess." My aunt has had both her shots (Pfizer), she said the day after receiving her second one she felt tired and had no appetite, but after taking a nap she felt fine. Well except for the third arm she's growing out of her back, but I think that may come in handy for guitar.

Grampa,
don't worry about the licks. Let's take another week on this chapter, and then move on to chapter 4 and see if how it goes.
I haven't been working with the licks as much as I planned, but I did spend some time on lesson 9 of R&BYCU. A cool song, but it has some difficult licks.

Grampa and Joachim, glad to hear I'm not the only one having a rough go with this set of licks. I probably have not been putting in as much time on them as I should, as have been busy with the-soon-to-be-no-more work. I've kind of fallen by the R&BYCU wayside, too. Joachim, I'm anxious to hear your take on lesson 9, and then on lesson 10 with the octaves. I think those are both cool studies.

Hope everyone is well! Bruce has me all jealous about retiring, I am planning working 5 more. That said I just signed new contract with the new company rolling into our location.
This week no singer for combo class so we spent time reviewing some instrumentals and intro sections. No class this week so will be going over some of the song materials.

Not much to report on this week. I'm waiting for those guys on the other site to decide on a song for the next collaboration. The "Softly, As In A Morning Sunrise" video really turned out well with participants from the beginner level all the way up to some pretty advanced players. That got me stoked up. I just hope the next one is also a song I like.
I see that Joachim is in a study group by himself going thru MBYCU. I hope some else joins him. That book has some great studies.

Hi guys, I hope you are all doing well and atleast somewhat consistently taking steps towards your goals. I have been slacking, work has been leaving me tired and without much stamina or focus to put towards proper practice. I’ve found most of the time when I pick up the guitar lately I just noodle around and improvise, which is probably a good thing but it certainly isn’t helping my technical growth. I’m working on Preaching Gospel Blues for the moment, I’ve got it down pretty good so I’m going to work on the next study, Blues Sixths soon and the scale/chord work in that lesson. I’ve also not made much progress on Metal Lead song 3, From the Heart in Troy’s series... hopefully I can find some vitality and bring back some focused practice soon. Anyhow, cheers fellas 🍻

Thank you, Bruce. I will try my best. Next month marks the one-year anniversary since I began BYCU.

Well, last week I recorded another monthly challenge and submitted it.
To be honest, I wasn't overly happy with it - felt a bit embarassed to post it here. Anyhow, here it is. The requirement was to play Im, IVm, V7 any way you wanted. I got a drummer friend to record the drum track. Personally, I feel it's a bit busy - perhaps too much guitar in the same tonal register.
See what you think if you dare...

See what you think if you dare... I liked that. Those couple of notes that were a little dissonant actually added some nice tension. The only thing I'd suggest to keep it from sounding too busy is to play the arpeggiated rhythm guitar part in a lower register. If one guitar is playing high the other should be low, or vice versa. (That's just my opinion). That way there's less chance of the guitars clashing and you get a fuller sound
