I had a pretty good week of practice, think I got in a couple hours every day. Almost three hours yesterday. Still working on Hotel California of course. The 12 string part is coming along, I play through the intro a bunch of times and then play through the whole song a few times (at about 91% tempo currently). Play along with the album a few times and then switch to the backing track. Lots of work to do still but I'm making progress I've got both parts of the solo up to speed and I'm just working on "polishing" stuff. There's a guitar that plays double-stops and also plays the cool little fills - I've got that memorized and recorded myself the other day - sounded pretty terrible So that needs lots of work. There are so many parts to this song I'll just have to get a few of them practiced and recorded, which will free up more time to work on the rest of them. Maybe in a month or so...

Jack, I have to give you credit for being so tenacious. I wish I had more of that. I'm impatiently waiting for the guy to edit the video I participated in for Frank Vignola's Truefire channel. Should be done any day. I was wondering why my part was harmonizing the melody in 5ths which was kind of strange to me. Yesterday it hit me that the melody is being done in 3 part harmony. I only received my part and not the whole thing. That's a clear example of "not seeing the forest for the trees." I'm also curious if they used any of the solo I submitted. The suspense is killing me. I'm currently learning a simple chord melody for the standard "Don't Get Around Much Anymore." I've been watching several YT videos on chord melody and had a couple of "aha!" moments that eluded me in the past. I'm telling you, I have to be exposed to things dozens of times before they sink in and I see how simple things really are. I have a tendency over complicate things. I also had a nice back and forth last week with Grampa on another thread regarding chord progressions. It was the kind of thing that forces me to think and organize my thoughts. That's always a good thing.

Well We had a singer in our combo class, first time for me. She is also vaccinated so I suppose its fairly safe, anyway we played Sweet HomeChigago, Mustang Sally, and Wont you be my love Peter green. Working on another one for next week name sleeps me though. Also played Funny Bone with the group did pretty good. .

Well, although we actually got a project going on here, life presented many distractions for me the last few weeks, and I found it hard to stay motivated and to keep keeping up - but I think that goes for many of us these days, and I hope I'll get back on track soon. However, I turned to the Bass for a few days now, and man... try playing through Billie Jean or Immigrant Song from end to end and you'll know what I mean... not that hard to learn the lines, but delivering them - a whole different story. I feel like I develop forearms like Popeye the seaman... but it's the most rewarding to lock in there, I tell you. Mick, you're the inspiration here! Well, that's all, folks - take care, everyone, greetings, T. If you think about it the drummer and the bass player never get a break. The melody instruments can sit out a few bars, rest, and come back in. Not the bass player or drummer. Everything depends on them to keep things going. They deserve our respect.

Rich, your combo class sounds like a lot of fun, as well as some really good education! Not much to report here - kind of slacking on BLYCU since we pushed our deadline back. Not what I intended to do! Need to record some more R&BYCU, and maybe one of my beginner jazz studies (Autumn Leaves). Just been busy with work and family and stuff.

The one thing I learned this week is when the band starts you stay on the 1 chord until the singer starts then you start the progression count. Lol

I've been taking a break for a couple of weeks, but got back into it over the weekend. Changing job, house renovations and looking for a new house is taking all my time right now.
And my man cave has been been invaded by my wife, who's working from home part time. But I will try to make the next deadline with the licks.

I'd thought I responded to this thread yesterday. Must be getting old. Practiced every day but am struggling with 2 of the 3 BLYCU examples so didn't record anything. Seems like that's the first biweekly recording I missed in a long time. Amazed how below par my strength and stamina are as exposed by the scale sequences I've been practicing. By the end of the book I'll either be a badass player or make a digital invalid of myself.

Jack, I have to give you credit for being so tenacious. I wish I had more of that. Mostly just my bullheadedness

I've not been a good guitar player the last couple of weeks and my guitars are feeling lonely and neglected.
