Here's my recording:
Unless you guys are dead-set on moving on to chapter 4, I don't mind spending another two weeks on Chapter 3. I feel I could benefit from spending a little more time on this chapter and perhaps trying to put together a couple of extra choruses from the finale.

Good job, Joachim. I'm good to take some more time on these. I'm having the dickens of a time getting lick 40 at even half speed, but I've been busy and not applying myself consistently. I feel like I've kind of fallen off the bandwagon with these last several assignments.

Hey Joachim, that sounded pretty good for "half-arsed", haha. I whined about my struggles in the weekly thread. Without rehashing that, I'm happy to spend a little more time on this section. I'm in the same boat as Bruce and having a difficult time getting 40 (and 41) up to tempo. I don't have an excuse either--been working them every day with good focus. I also have not been able to recycle some of the earlier examples in the section and there's a few I'd like another go at. I think next weekend is the deadline for the current period. I wouldn't mind going even a couple weeks beyond that. I took a look at the first example from the next section and couldn't do much besides laugh. IIRC the first bar was a septuplet followed by a sextuplet or something like that. I really butchered the first section of the book because I don't grok JGs sense of slow blues timing/rhythm (even struggled with that on some of the earliest BYCU studies). Next section is doing that in way intended to draw attention. I'm in no hurry to endure that much frustration and humiliation.

Sounds like it's unanimous then, so let's take an extra two weeks on these three licks. I'm still going to try to record and post something for next weekend, but I won't feel too bad if it's half-speed AND half-arsed! Grampa, I've looked at that next chapter with trepidation, as well. Those licks may well be even a slower go than these are.

Here's my take at 41 (insert barf emoji) I got so frustrated I just came home plugged in and did one take. Really wasn't any worse than prior attempts. Also tried to do a do-over on 45 which I butchered really bad the first time. Missed the first note but overall better than last time. Sigh. I think on balance I'm getting worse, guys! soundcloud.com/grampalerxst/blycu-41

Man, grampa, I thought that sounded pretty darned good! Those are some tough licks, and you certainly came down much better with them than I did. I have just been completely floundering with these last several rounds of licks. I'm game to try to push on into the next chapter if you and Joachim are - maybe I can come back to these for some remedial work once I retire...

That was awesome, Grampa! I am all in for moving on; I also fell on the band-wagon the last month, but I am ready to make up for it.

Thanks for the kind words Bruce, Tbone, and Joachim. I'm going to record the last two %^%*^%& licks from the section even if it causes me to smash my guitars into kindling.
But if it's time for the group to move on I have no objection. I'll make my best effort to keep up.

Grampa like the old saying goes: "I couldn't hear what you were intending to play, but what you did play sounded pretty darned good!" These licks are a whole lot faster than the earlier stuff; think of it this way - if you get 90% of the way there on something that's of high difficulty, you've probably make more progress than if you get 95% of the way there on something of moderate difficulty.

They've all been assigned, so in that sense we're not missing any. I've just failed to record two of them (39 and 40 iirc).

I think we've done all the licks in chapter 3, so on to chapter 4. In the last two chapters JG puts licks in a varying order as to where they fit in the 12 bar progression, so we can just follow the order he presents them in. So let's just start with licks 46 and 47. I'll try to get a formal challenge posted after work today.

That sounds like a difficult set of licks. My hat is off to Gramps and Joachim.
