Here's my attempt at "Major Blues". I'm going to take a crack at recording "More Minor Blues" and possibly "Hard Edge Blues" later this weekend. I'm still having trouble playing Hard Edge at full tempo. I was able to get a half-way decent recording in 40 mins. which is a record for me. My 1st few recordings took me several hours each. I'm finding that I'm making less mistakes while recording and, of course, that means less re-takes. Maybe there is something to this whole practice thing. I'm not completely happy with some of the bends. I started using DR Pure Blues 10's several weeks ago and broke a string last week. I changed back to Ernie Ball RPS 11's that I had been using previously and they are much more difficult for me to bend. I'm definitely going back to the DR 10's. I really like those strings. soundcloud.com/jack_e_blue/14-bycu-major-blues-4-18-14Phil

Phil,
Sounds very good to me! I think the "pressure" of recording is good practice in itself. Looking forward to hearing "More Minor" and "Hard Edged".

Phil, play like that and you say you need a shorter scale ? I thought you sounded good. By the recording you would never know that you had any problems with playing because of small hands. Keep rockin' buddy.

Very nice recording - makes me want to eat humble-pie... I am also looking forward to more recordings!
I have the same experience about recording - definitely good practice to record the lessons.

Phil, Sounds very good to me! I think the "pressure" of recording is good practice in itself. Looking forward to hearing "More Minor" and "Hard Edged". Bruce Thanks, Bruce. As you well know, recording yourself and posting the results for others to critique definitely forces you to have some discipline in your playing and focus in your practice. That was something I was really seriously lacking in. Once I made the decision to to stop jumping around and learning a little piece here, another over there, and not making any progress, and put my focus on getting through BYCU I started to make some progress. I still watch other guitar teachers on the Internet, but it's more for entertainment. Although I do try some of what they offer and learn some new things, it's not my main focus. I've come to the conclusion that you should pick a teacher and then stick with that teacher until you reach a stage where you a no longer satisfied and need to move on. When can we be expecting the next installment of "Jazzin' the Blues" from you? Phil

Keep rockin' buddy. LP Thanks for the encouragement, Pete. Here's the way I'm looking at things right now: if I have to go somewhere that's 20 miles away I could walk there or drive there. Both methods will get me to my destination, but walking will leave me physically exhausted and might even be somewhat painful. That's why I'm toying with the idea of getting a shorter scale guitar - I want to drive there. Phil

Thanks, Joachim. Don't eat any humble-pie just yet. You are making some very fast progress. Keep posting your recordings. I think you have discovered what a valuable tool it is. Phil

Phil,
Not sure about next video - been practicing, but have to work this weekend, so no time for recording or videos.
