Next up, licks 37 & 38. This will put as half way through this book! This time, I just made two separate "Guitar Pro Version" mp3's, and they're small enough to just attach here: BLYCU - Lick 37 GP c BT.mp3 (505.42 KB) BLYCU - Lick 38 GP c BT.mp3 (505.42 KB) Sorry, a lot of these licks fit over this same portion of the 12 bar progression. I think next round we'll skip ahead to get a couple of the licks over the last 4 bars. Anyway, due date for these will be Sunday, January 31, 2021. Let me know if these mp3's don't work for you.

For the first time in quite a while, I wasn't able to work out one of the examples by ear. Lick 38 heading towards the end he moves the double-stops up to strings 3 and 2, and that faked me out of my sneakers. Once I peeked in the book and saw where he was playing it came pretty easy. I've always suspected that when trying to work out pitches, timbre fools me. Or in other words, it's easier for me to work things out my timbre is very close to the recorded tone. Most of these I've figured out with an unplugged guitar trying to imitate an amplified guitar. The difference in tone between string sets is much smaller than between amped guitar and unplugged. Yet here I am.

Raw and sloppy again. It's becoming increasingly clear to me I'll never be a clean and elegant player no matter how much I work at it. Luckily raunch is fun too. Two choruses was just too much to tackle, so I just did one using 38 (by far the harder of the two for me) along with 34 and added 44 (at least a facsimile of it) and a bar or two of made up nonsense for connective tissue. I'll use 37 when we're working on some new stuff that doesn't fall in the first four bars. soundcloud.com/grampalerxst/blycu-34-38-44

Sounds very clean to me Grampa, and a touch of elegance might be noticed as well Nice job on that.

I think that sounds good, Grampa. I agree lick 38 was much harder than 37. At least you got something recorded. I kind of crapped out this round, as I've been having pain in my right hand, and haven't even picked up the guitar since a week ago last Friday. For the next round, lets take the last two licks in this section - 44 & 45. These both go over the last 4 bars in the progression. I'll keep up my ice and Ibuprofen, and hopefully will be back in the game.

Thanks, guys.
Sorry to hear that, Bruce. Careful with that injury. By all accounts resting from the guitar is the best long-term move.
Jack, thanks for the encouragement. Except for the mistakes (4) and ham handed parts (~35 seconds worth) there might be some clean elegance lurking in there, haha. I'll report back if I can find it. I suppose I keep the bar higher than I have a right to, but that vision is what drives me to keep at it.

That was great, Grampa!
I will record something tonight - in my noodling so far I've started out the same way as Grampa - I'll probably stick with that, just to get something recording. I was trying to build up an entire chorus using the ideas of lick 37, but ran out of time.

Here is what I managed tonight, unpolished and a little rushed. The next two weeks should be fun with the addition of some ending licks

Nice job, Joachim. You and Grampa both knocked it out this time!

I like the way you transposed 34 down to open strings. I'd tried that and it was sort of a disaster, and I also like the way you varied 34 at the very end. Really solid all the way through.
