I use this a fair bit: ytmp3.cc/en13/When you tell it you want to download the converted file, it opens another browser tab with advertising and crap (when I used to use Avast antivirus software it would give me a security warning and prevent the tab from opening, but now I'm just using the Microsoft antivirus that comes with Windows and it doesn't say anything). Anyhow I just close that extra browser tab and it works well. Anyhow, probably "use at your own risk" type of thing but my computer hasn't blown up yet Phil, The one Jack linked above is the one I've used the most. For a while I was using the free version of Kapersky Security Cloud and it didn't like that site at all, and it (Kapersky) sort of messed up my pc a little after encountering that site, so I've since uninstalled Kapersky and just use Windows Defender/antimalware. I used the site before and after Kapersky and never had a security issue on my pc but just beware.
Also I don't know the legality of the process. My understanding is there are some entities out there that are licensed to do this service, and since that site feeds you ads in exchange for the conversion, I assume it is legit, but I'm not 100% certain so I don't use it to grab mp3s of things I could buy mp3s for. That may be an overabundance of caution.
I'm assuming Bruce has not monetized his Youtube account (so that I'm not ripping him off by converting) and does not mind if I convert the BLYCU Challenge GP demos to mp3 for temporary use in the challenge (am I correct, Bruce?). Also, Bruce, it would save me a step if the Challenge GP demos were uploaded to a file sharing site--so if you opt to do that for RBYCU, maybe consider it for BLYCU as well? I'm assuming the hassle for you is roughly equal regardless of where you upload to. If it's not, don't worry about it, it's a trivial inconvenience for me to continue to do the conversion.

There is also a command-line tool that I've used: yt-dl.org/But that is certainly more complicated. I think most similar online web-services just provide a convenient front-end to that tool, including adds and mal-ware.

Grampa, you are correct that I don't mind at all, and I'm pretty sure there is no money to be made from my Youtube account (and it's 3 or 4 views a week). If you PM me an e-mail address, I'll just send you and Joachim the Guitar Pro demos as mp3's, and it'll save me time as well (not having to make a video and mess with posting to Youtube). Phil, do you have any way of knowing how many people ever download the MBYCU backing tracks from your site? I wonder if it's even worth trying to post R&BYCU backing tracks, whether anyone would ever access them or use them. My R&BYCU tracks, being midi, definitely have that "mechanical" midi sound (robotic timing, no variation in velocity). Logic has a setting to "humanize" midi - so it will make some subtle variations in the timing and volumes so it will supposedly have a more "human" sound to it. I need to read up on that and try it out. I do think there is real value to having true backing tracks and not just playing along with a recording - it's a world of difference in learning to play something.

I don't see any statistics on Dropbox. I'm sure they know. I do know that the post with the download link on my blog has gotten 1913 views in the 3 years it's been posted. How many of those actually downloaded it is unknown. I have a plugin on my site that tells me how many tabs have been downloaded, but the tabs are hosted on the site same site as my blog.
I had to move the backing tracks from Soundcloud because they wanted to start charging me due to the number of downloads.

Thanks for that, Phil. That's interesting - especially about Soundcloud wanting to charge you. I expect MBYCU generates more traffic than R&BYCU would. Amazon lists MBYCU as #250 among "guitar songbooks", R&BYCU as #2421. I'm leaning towards just attaching a "lo-fi" mp3 and a midi file, with the offer to just PM me on here if you''d like a better quality mp3. Hopefully, having a project like that (to make a complete set of backing tracks) would spur me to continue on through the book!

You could use any cloud service - google drive, one drive, Idrive. They all have sharing capabilities.

Bit late to the party...
been working on various little bits and a G-major scale. I'm also embarrassing myself by trying to hum notes from the scale relative to the root, so play the root and try to hum the major-third, perfect-fifth and octave in the hope to improve my ear-skills (which are awful it would appear).
I'm hoping to record one part of a two-guitar piece this weekend.
Work has been horrendous this week which has hampered some of my time.
