I guess I'll get the ball rolling if somebody else doesn't beat me to it.
I'm really having a tough time with the final lessons in the Mickey Baker book. I can read simple melodies from "The Real Book" with no problem, but reading more complex stuff in standard notation is taxing my brain. I shouldn't be having this a problem. Everything is based on patterns he presented earlier. Of course, being the knuckhead I am, I never seriously drilled those patterns when they were presented. I'm also having a problem with some 1/4 note triplets. After spending a lot of time over several days and getting extremely frustrated I think I finally figured out method for getting the timing right on those. 1/4 note triplets have always caused me headaches and Mickey Baker apparently loved them. Anyhoo, I'm sticking with this. Only 6 lessons left. I've also been watching a lot of videos by Whit Smith. Whit is one of the top Western Swing guitarists. I'm fascinated by how these Western Swing guys move chords all over the place. The guy's videos are hard to follow. He plows through this stuff at warp speed. However, I've learned more about moving chords from watching his videos than from any of the formal courses I have. None of this has anything to do with Blues, but it's where I've ended up. I still blame this all on Bruce for getting me interested in Jazz. If you guys remember his first videos were from John G's "Jazzin' the Blues".

I'm still working on the same old Unforgiven. The solo is coming along, main problem is there are a ton of YouTube lessons on that solo and every time I watch another one, I decide to change how I've been doing it lol. There are a pile of bends up on the 19th and 20th frets and I'm working on A) getting them to pitch and B) deadening some bends at the top and letting others release, all of which of course requires timing. Bend, deaden, unbend and instantly re-bend. My house painting and new rain gutter project is pretty much done, so who knows, maybe I'll find more time to practice. Nah, just everybody else will find more stuff they need me for

Well I am still doing same stuff, and reviewing old material. Suppose to be working on changing key of 2 solos, but not much time to work on that. I finally finished wiring up my pedal board but still need to do some clean up to the bottom. Will try to post a photo.

Well, my 2009 27" iMac died this week - the dreaded white screen of death! I think the hard drive died, but a 2009 computer is pretty well obsolete, and I don't see sinking any money into it. That was my "music computer", though I've been moving more and more to using my MacBook Pro for everything. Anyway, finally made a video with my new THR amp - just played the backing track on the computer through my Focusrite interface and M-Audio speakers, and recorded the whole "performance" on my cell phone (so it's just cell phone audio on the video). The THR amp is played using the Line 6 Relay G10 Wireless transmitter (which works wirelessly with this THR amp). This is one of the tracks from "Fast Forward Lead Guitar Solos", which is a pretty beginnerish kind of book I've been playing with, trying to improve my lead playing...

Sounds good, Bruce.
Mostly focused on BLYCU challenge this week. I thought it turned out okay this time.

Well I passed the test which was a huge relief on my part. I've been looking at what I should start or pick back up. I have a really issue with staying focused on one thing for more than a few weeks. I really envy Phil who can make it to the last few lessons on the Mickey Baker books. I have the same book and I'm on lesson 3 for months now.
The other was the importance of a DI box when recording. I've been really frustrated when recording guitars into my interface. I ran across this old DI box i bought when I was trying to record on a cassette 4-tracks (remember those things). I bought it because i was reading, the pro's said you needed one. I found this for $10 on ebay. I never noticed a an impact on the guitar so tossed it in a box and forgot about it. I came across it this weekend and decided to use it. Holy cow batman it was like night and day the difference it made.
bluesbruce cool demo. Those little Yamaha's look really cool, and Nice guitar your playing too!!!
Phil Maybe John G could work on a new book called "Western Swinin' Da Blues"

Phil Maybe John G could work on a new book called "Western Swinin' Da Blues" I just checked my Amazon history. I bought the book in Aug. 2016. I've gone through the 1st half (chord progressions) probably 3 times over the years. I've revisited some lessons several times. Others I essentially skipped. However, this is the first time I've gone past the 1st few lessons of part 2. I'm not exactly moving through this book at warp speed. "Western Swingin' Da Blues," I like that.

T-Bone, I hate every single video of child prodigies ever posted on YouTube. I wish you would have some consideration for my fragile ego.

I remember Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepard and Joe Bonamassa all teen age prodigies. Now they are just guy's making records and going on tour.

Marc Glad to hear it was of some help to you.
This week i've tried something to gauge my progress - I'll detail this in a seprate post.
I've also been working on the monthly challenge (date was revised for this weekend coming, not last weekend) but I'm currently not happy with my efforts and I only have a couple of days left. Expect my video posted here on Sunday.
Finally, had a rotten cold over the weekend which has stiffled playing a bit - getting over it slowly, just hope I don't have a coughing fit while recording for the challenge!
