2 of my favorite jazz players.
I have several CDs by Emily Remler and she was such a talent. Shame that she couldn't stay away from the needle and spoon.
Herb has a long legacy in the jazz arena and remained very prolific during his career. 2 of his last recording (maybe his last 2) was made with Duke Robillard. Conversations in Swing Guitar and More Conversations in Swing Guitar. These are well worth the investment if you can find them. Herb passed away in the last few years from Alzheimer's.
Here is one of the songs from the 1st CD

Herb always has a strong element of the blues in his playing, no matter what the tune. He once said that if the music doesn't have the blues in it, it makes no sense to him.
Thanks for the post.

JG Herb was unique in his approach for sure. The 2 recordings that he made with Duke was swing blues at its finest yet on some of solo recordings, there seemed to be a bit of a country guitar element to it as well. I had forgotten that he was the led the band on the Mike Douglas show (I'm showing my age here!) but just as Paul Shaffer has been with Letterman for years, it was similar role that Herb filled in the early 70s He was a great musician with an amazing veratility
