I have been working hard on bends and 7th chords and I made recordings of lessons 2 and 3. soundcloud.com/joachim-dahl-1/bluesrocktunesoundcloud.com/joachim-dahl-1/trueblueI've spend a long time on these lessons, but my chord changes were so slow, and my picking style quite irregular and "staccato-like" that I waited abit with moving onwards. Blues Rock Tune was really pushing the envelope for me, so I needed to build up some speed and consistency. I started doing scale practice with a metronome and became fairly confident with Chord Exercise 1 on p 43, which seemed to give me the boost I needed for playing Blues Rock Style. The picking in Blues Rock Tone is still staccato-like, but it's a fair reflection of my skills right now. It's still better than before, though, and will hopefully improve in time. Regarding bends: I think they are also better than before, but perhaps I still don't bend quite far enough? (Or maybe it's just intonation problems ) I started to practice the early lessons in BRYCU in parallel, so I have more material to practice before moving onwards in BUCY while things slowly settle. Cheers Joachim

Wow, Joachim! I think those both sound nice. Good job and thanks for sharing. I agree with you - working on several lessons in parallel is the way to go - playing the same thing over and over and over is just too boring (and probably counterproductive).

Joachim, Much better! Your bends in 'True Blue' are good, which proves that you can bend to pitch. 'Blues Rock Tune' is still a slight problem and I think I know why. Once again I want to emphasize that I have no business giving anybody playing advice. However, I'm still very close to this problem and I'm confident that I might be able to help you in this specific area.
The difficulty with the bends in "Blues Rock Tune" is that they have to be executed very fast. You have to hit it on an 8th note and move quickly on to the next note. With "True Blue" you have plenty of time to make the bend because it is a slower tune and the bend is a 4th note.
I recommend that you practice just the 1st measure of "Blues Rock" over and over again and in between practicing other things. Just that one measure or even just the bend and the following note. Think of Chuck Berry and just pop that bend like he does in 'Johnny Be Goode'. You will get this down in no time with a little more practice.

You're right, Phil, I noticed that myself as well. Blues Rock is actually hard... Practicing just the fast bend is a good idea.
Thanks for the feedback. Joachim
