As anticipated, guitar time was down several hours this week. At least I'll have a few more bucks in my pocket in return. For the most part it felt like I was able to touch the different things I'm actively working on just enough to not forget them. This coming week won't be much better.

Very ho hum week here, too. I think I had one day where I didn't even pick up the guitar, and overall time was down for sure. Working on the BLYCU challenge mostly, also spent some time looking at another lick book I have for some comparison.

Well my time is up again, practicing turn arounds, also cleaning up a micro lesson from AM site shuffle rythm that is pretty cool. Found a jazz site with chord theory have been studying as well. I now understand how to build a triad.

Our Mr. Phil seems to have gone AWOL on us - I think we should make him do an hour long live-stream of all those jazz tunes he knows in order to regain his "member in good standing" status I had kind of an okay week working on "The Unforgiven." Making a bit of progress, getting things up to a little quicker tempo. The classical guitar part at the beginning, well there's a few tricky parts and they still need plenty of work. Most of the melodic bits on the clean electric guitar are coming along well, there are lots of slides (at least I think they're slides, might be hammer-ons) and the timing is a bit tricky, but it's getting there. I'm just getting started on the solo a bit, lots and lots of bends up around the 20th fret - you guys know how much I love those Haven't even looked at the parts after the solo - there's a strummed acoustic and maybe a two-part harmony bit later on. Jeez, turning 56 on Thursday - that's closer to 60 than 50. How the hell did I get so old when I'm not even grown up yet?!?! Oh well, probably switch to playing Lawrence Welk tunes I suppose. Waltzes and that sort of thing. Maybe get a gig at the senior center - half those folks are deaf anyway...

Happy Birthday, Jack!
I worked on the licks a bit - the last ones seem a little odd to me, so will take a little work to put them together.
But I had the most fun I've had in a long time learning a BB King song by ear - that signals to me that I should be doing that more... It was kind of prompted by my 15 year old, who started to play the guitar 3-4 years ago, but never really got started. Then 3-4 weeks ago he found some Jimi Hendrix lessons online and learned 4-5 songs including the solos in no time. He cannot stomach doing scales or learning "properly", but just learning songs he likes seems to really move him forward at warp-speed. Then he started noodling "Black Magic Woman", and I firmly and promptly told him to back off - Peter Green is *my* idol!

Looks like I'm turning into T-Bone. I thought I'd lay low for a while. The last couple of months have been erratic. Although I've had a guitar in my hands almost everyday I really haven't been "practicing". I'm also trying to muscle my way through the last 7 lessons of the Mickey Baker book which is written in standard notation. One thing that is improving is my ability to find the notes on the fret board. In fact, often my fingers will go to the right note, but I'll doubt myself and stop to check. Self-confidence has never been my strong point. I've been popping in to lurk fairly often and have been impressed by the quality of the stuff you all have been uploading. Quite an improvement over the old days. One of these days I'm going to get my son to bring over his new camera and make a video. But don't hold your breath.

There's an option to regain a "member in good standing" status?!? I knew I could draw you in. You'll always have a "member in good standing" status I far as I'm concerned.

Happy birthday Jack!!!
I've worked on my monthly submission for the other site - that's now recorded and will be submitted on Friday, so expect it Sunday here. As a side note, it's my 6th submission, and as a paid member I'll be able to claim a free t-shirt for my efforts. I'm going for 12 in a row which gets you a special t-shirt apparently, we'll see (you can only claim one in a 12 month period - so I'm aiming high).
This week I'm working on a lesson I hope to record later this week. My band (which has yet to ever perform in public) have been discussing tracks online so I'll have a few to learn very soon. Hoping we can get together for a rehearsal at some point soon.

Practice wise, I've been working on some alt picking drills. I'm still pretty rhythm guitar focused right now. I have found that when I'm noodling that it has helped with picking out some melody and finding other ways and places to play something. Inversions are blowing my mind.
I have been in a bit of a gear rabbit hole. I picked up a Jackson on GC daily deal but took it back and swapped it for a Schecter super strat style. I'm not sure i'll keep it, but hell I have 6 months to decide. The neck feels huge and flat which I really love and hate. Maybe those shredder guys are on to something.

Happy Birthday Jack!!! Enjoy the day.
I'm finally back to guitar the last couple of days, all available time working on the licks project for now.
