OK, moving onward toward the completion of Section 1 of this book... Next challenge will be THREE licks - Lick 11 (bars 7 & 8), Lick 13 (bars 9 & 10), and Lick 15 (bars 11 & 12). We'll call the due date Sunday, September 6. This Guitar Pro version uses other BLYCU Licks over bars 1-6, then use Licks 11, 13, and 15 over bars 7-12. Again, feel free to do your own thing with these licks - slow them down, use an alternate backing track (the provided one is at 65 BPM), change 'em around, maybe you'll feel the urge to put something into the space in the second bar of Lick 13, record just the licks if putting together a 12 bar chorus is too much. I think we'll go ahead and finish out Section 1, then we've had some good suggestions for mixing it up more in the upcoming sections (we'll probably do a lick over the first four bars, then the second four bars, then the last four bars rather than doing all the first four bar licks, then all the second four back licks..., we may also jump around from the one section to another to mix up the backing tracks, etc.).

It wasn't until yesterday I even got to try 13 and 15. Of course with the all-time record of number of licks plus substantially-reduced guitar I decide that this time I was going to be strict about making every effort possible to pick up the licks without the book.
As a group these once again have some notes that are outside what my ear anticipates, so good exercise in that regard.
Even though we've encountered several times already, that little move JG likes where you start a phrase by sliding from b5 to the 5 on the B-string to do the 5-1-5 or similar on the B and E strings is still pretty awkward for me. Plus when I hear it my fingers want to bend on the G-string instead of sliding on the B.
I hope the move shows up in the other sections because realistically I won't be going back to reiew the Section 1 stuff while we're working on the later sections.

Well, I'm going to post this and call it done (though not very well). I didn't spend enough time to get this up to speed, so it's recorded at 55 bpm over a simple recording of strumming the chords (the backing track is at 65 bpm). This starts with Lick 2 (4 bars), then Lick 6 (two bars). The last six bars are Licks 11, 13, and then 15 (two bars each). Lots of warts on this one, will try to do better on the next one...

I did a quick recording. Very mechanic, just putting the licks together one by one like homework.
Measures 1-6 are from the second solo in Sweet Little Angel, which I've been working on:

Bruce, that was pretty cool. I like how different some of these phrases sounded over the stripped-down accompaniment.

Nicely done, Joachim. Numerous bonus points for using The King of the Blues! Grampa, you can just move on to the next one if you want. It'll be lick 14 - our last one out of this section!.
