I actually had a good week of practice, 1-2 hours every day. Working on those Albert King licks for the "challenge" (and of course the major/minor thing got put on hold). The tough part with the licks is keeping track of where you are in the backing track - this lick ends on beat 1 and next I think I'll play this one that starts on beat 4...oops, beat 4 just went by while I was thinking about that. So we'll just take a little break here 'till that comes around again Leaves some awkward moments in solos lol. Oh well, that will be my project for today, along with memorizing them. The next webinar is Wednesday so I'm planning on getting something recorded before then. And I'm pretty sure Phil was going to post a recording this week too?

I had a good week too. Playing was fun, and there are things I feel like I'm improving on. Still working on all the same stuff, Electric Gypsy intro, s-i-l project, and some Petrucci warmups.

Hi guys, 7 hours in the bag this week, I was hoping to get 10 in but life got in the way as per usual.
I did lesson 4 "Disturbed" from the Total Rock book, and started work on Chapter 2 from the lead guitar book. I've got the study piece upto about 80%. This is really a big ramp up from chapter 1, no wonder I didn't get any further than this before. Hopefully I'll stick with it 16ths @ 130bpm !!!!!
Aim to start Chapter 3 from the Rhythm book and lesson 5 from the rock book this week.

Hope everyone had a great week. We moved on from Robert Cray to Santana tune called Chill Out John Lee Hooker singing. Got the main rhythm and chords down, working on the fill licks, have them ok but on one of the licks supposed to use octaves that isnt to smooth. I think this week we will work on the intro solo.

Don't have much to say this week. I'm still keeping at it. Most of my time this week was spent trying to come up with some solos of my own and it hasn't been pretty. Looks like I'll be better off taking bits and pieces of other people's solos and stringing them together. My original ideas sound like a first grader trying to write the great American novel.
OK, Jack. I do need to need get off my ass and record something. I've put it off for too long. The problem is I'm a chronic procrastinator.

I've been on a roll of not having the time to play as much as I would like and it hit again this week. Still stuck on the Life's giving me a shakedown and a tone of 'job' stuff is changing in the next few months. We will see what happens there.
I'm still on lesson 10 of the BYCU book, a few awkward places I'm struggling with. If I can get a little more time i'm sure i can overcome them. I've been experimenting more, with some major triad's and inversions in my attempt to understand the fretbord more and getting out of the boxes.
My 18 year old son asked me for a guitar lesson today. I taught him White Stripes Seven Nation Army. I sat and watched him struggle on the main riff and it dawned on me how much is sucks to be a beginner, when everything felt so foreign and awkward. It was very cool experience to share with him music. He's never really been interested before.

I did that beer + internet + credit card thing again, there's a pre-wired pickguard with Lace Sensor gold pickups for my Strat headed my way, should be here tomorrow The "gold" pickups are supposed to be the most "vintage" sounding, like what came stock in the '50s or '60s. And they're noiseless I guess, which will be nice. I've just been really unhappy with my Strat's pickups lately, they're extremely thin sounding. So we shall see how that goes - I'm sure the obvious thing will happen, I'll figure out it's not the guitar, it's the guy playing it

Hi Marc, the Total Rock book is certainly doable, at least the first half. same with the rhythm books - 2 vols. I really struggled with the lead guitar book when I first attempted it, and still am, but I'm intending to get a little further this time. Bruce and Jack both have the Total Rock book also. I would say that there is a lot to be gained from working through both the Stetina and BYCU courses.

Pretty new toy Now to drink enough beer to get up the courage to install it Is that a Gilmour setup by chance? No, just the standard Strat setup, with a plain old 5-way switch, one volume and two tone controls.
