Pretty mediocre week for me, busy with Christmas stuff etc. (made a cheesecake yesterday lol). I started working a bit on Freddie King's "Hide Away", I thought that would be a nice project with guitar, bass and drum software. I had to cut my fingernails to play bass so that kind of ruins the classical guitar playing and the Christmas songs along with it. Oh well the household certainly got plenty of them over the last couple of months Got this partially completed cover of "Heart Shaped Box" done, I still need to add another verse and chorus on the end I think. Need to tidy up the production as well.

Hey Jack, Nirvana! Cool. Sounds great. I too have been noodling with sonic palettes more in line with the 90s onward than with the 80s backward (project with my metalcore drummer son-in-law). I'm starting with that old prog rock thing I excavated from the fossil bed and shared here a while back and mixing it with a good dollop of influence from the new Tool record. I steered clear of Tool for 25ish years, but I'm pretty impressed with a lot of the new record.
I'm still churning away on the Electric Gypsy intro stuff. I'd put the odds at about 40% that I make it all the way up to tempo with fair execution by the end of 2020. The speed of that turnaround lick still gets me. Working on that every day for over a year now is going to force me to take my guitar in for repair. I've played it so many times I've worn down a couple of jumbo frets to the point 7th position is buzz city on the G and B strings. I don't think I'll ever buy another guitar without stainless steel frets. Will probably get this one refretted with ss as soon as I can find someone willing to do it.
Otherwise, all is well. Best wishes to all for warm and happy holidays.

Nice playing, Jack. You really got that grungy tone nailed. I got back into focusing on walking bass on a Jazz Blues progression. If I ever get to where I can play thru 2 12-bar choruses without screwing up I'll make a video. But that may be awhile. I did learn another classic Jazz standard this week, "Honeysuckle Rose". Not exactly a cool grunge tune, but it's cool in it's own way. I'm still obsessed with chords and progressions - connecting chords using bass notes, walking a chord up into an inversion, approaching chords from a half-step above or below, using substitutions, etc. Most guys getting into Jazz seem to want to immediately jump into soloing. I'm finding playing chords to be a world unto itself with endless possibilities and new things to explore. It's not for everybody, but it's holding my interest and keeping me motivated. Merry Christmas to all. I need to start thinking about some simple, attainable goals for next year.

Jack, I can't listen to the Heart Shaped cover right now, our apartment is too noisy - I'll get back to it later. I did much better on the diet and gym front, but racked up another zero on the guitar playing... I keep thinking if I check in here, I'll at some point actually try to play the thing again. Think I'll have "dry January", too. I don't know why, but it seems that when I get to exercising more regularly, guitar time dies away and when I get to playing guitar more, it seems like I'm Mr. Sedentary. Maybe there's just not enough hours in the day...
