Hi John!
You noted in your news flash as of 27th November that more new stuff is coming.
I think I can speak for a lot of musicians of the BYCU-community that we are very curious about new stuff.
Can you give us a hint?
Thank you for your great products!
Kind regards from Austria!

Hi Alex,
I've got some BYCU supplemental studies written that I aim to put up this month. So far, I have supplements for the first 7 lessons, which are variations of the studies in the book. I have to record them first.
Other than that, I'm working on a beginner's book, which I am thinking will be an e-book with embedded audio, and maybe even video, if I can manage it. If it works out, I think I'll try to create a new series of e-books. What does everyone think of e-books.
I'm also working on writing my own music for a CD, and other musical projects.
Thanks for the interest.

ebooks can be great. I've purchased some that were great and some that were junk. Any more I rely on reviews and reputation. From what you have put out John i'd buy one of your books in a heartbeat. with ebooks it's nice to be able to carry around a library of information on a flash drive or a phone rather than clutter up book shelves. At the same time I still buy books and if an eBooks is quality then i print it out and put it in binder.

I like that you can go back in and edit out mistakes and say things more clearly, etc. Once the plates for a paper book are set, it's difficult to get them changed, to say the least.
I also like that you can embed audio, and I really find the concept of embedded video exciting.
Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks for your input, tbone. You've given me a lot of good ideas - I might have to credit you with any that go forward. Seriously, though, I really like your ideas on specialized, in-depth books (turnarounds, developing motives, etc.). That's just the kind of thing you can do in an ebook without having to go to that much expense in production (I hope). You can be sure I'm going to keep all these responses for future reference.
Thanks.

Personally, I would love to see you produce some videos. I find that I learn best by hearing and seeing it played and having the tab. But, I'm not about to give you advice. You need to do what's in your best interests. However, short video lessons focused on specific themes (turnarounds, technique, 8-bar, revisiting sections of BYCU, etc.)and available for download at a reasonable price may be something to consider.

Hi, I'm new here but not new to BYCU series & I LOVE the series of books! I have learned way more from the series than any lessons I have taken or other books. I really like the book & CD method (have the Tascam guitar trainer) and I would be the first to buy "Rockin the Blues" to help me better understand blues rock ( grew up on the Stones, Zep, Cream etc) and a "Sliding into the Blues" to improve & learn about slide guitar. I must say the John has the best method lessons to learn with the theory, scales, cords and a fun (& not lame) piece to play. So for my 2 cents worth, my vote is: -Rockin the blues book & CD -Sliding into the blues book & CD Thanks for the BEST body of work to learn all about blues guitar!!

I'd snap up a Rockin' Blues You Can Use book and CD. I have no experience with e books, but if that was the only way to get "Rockin' BYCU" I certainly would do so. Absolutely.

I´m happy that I seemingly touched on a point that concerns quite a few musicians within the community. I excited hearing from you John. What I was also thinking about was some kind of a guide focusing on gear (types of guitars, recommended amps/effects, sound setup, etc.) for blues guitarists.
Thank you!

I'm neutral on ebooks. At my roots I like to have paper books because I can scribble notes and take them somewhere my computer is not (the "grampa" in my handle should provide a hint to my tech savvy end the extent of my assorted mobile device collection. But, if the subject was something I was interested in and it was the only option, I wouldn't find them objectionable.
I'm another who would enjoy a "blues rock" - style offering that would cover use of blues-based/pentatonic scales and ideas in the context of the type of chord progressions that have drifted over to the rock side of the aisle. Perhaps even extending to pentatonic/modal scale mixtures. The audio sampler for R&BYCU has me quite intrigued, and I could envision something like that set into more of "album rock" backdrop as an item I'd buy.
The prior ideas about turnarounds and solo construction seem like good topics too. I guess I don't have anything original to contribute, but I'll put my thinking cap on.

I have no experience with e-books, so forgive me if this is a dumb question. Can you print out portions of an e-book? I like to have the music in front of me on the music stand when I'm learning. Also, can the audio portion be loaded on to an iPod? It's not really convenient for me to have the lap top where I practice guitar, so being able to put the audio on the iPod and printing the sheet music would be very handy.

No dumb questions, TommyD. In fact, they're good ones. And I don't yet have the answers - yet. I have to do more research, I guess.
I'm old-school as well. I like paper and I like the page in front of me. But it seems that ebooks are where the trend is heading. Printed media is losing ground to digital. The tides of culture change and move in different directions. I'm just trying to keep up. But I must say I find all of the responses in this thread (and others) are very helpful. They show me what I haven't considered yet, and directions to look in so as to find the best way to connect with people. And that's the bottom line.
My students often (usually) become my friends. I feel that way about everyone who visits and participates here - even if just by reading the posts. Students and friends.
Thanks again, to everybody. I will keep at it.

Most ebooks can be printed out. I bought them before and printed them out. I think there would be a way to extract the audio form an embedded eBook but I'm not sure. My computer is close to my practice area, so it's a no issue for me I also print stuff out.

Hi! One more vote for: Rockin the blues John, you look like a very kind person. I really like your wish to share, this is greatly appreciated. Thanks! E-books can be printed for sure. If you want a good print-capacity, just use PDF as a format. I am so excited by this idea of "Rockin the blues". That'd be the perfect continuation of your blues serie. How could we convince you? Many Cheers Big Fab

As a novice guitar-player, I struggle with efficient finger-positions in the studies. For such advice, embedded videos in ebooks (or just on a DVD enclosed with the books) sounds ideal. Many of the questions are answered here: www.bluesyoucanuse.com/ttlesson1.htmlbut videos might be useful to illustrate such things. That said, I enjoy the printed books with accompanying audio tracks very much; I greatly prefer a printed copy over an ebook. Cheers Joachim
