Well, I got quite a bit of practice in this week. Started a new practice plan that worked for me... hope I keep it up I'm finding Delta Blues to be a finger-twister for me. I'm learning it at 65% of speed but the sequence just isn't staying in my head well. I honestly thought this one would be easier to remember and work through but I'm struggling. So, it's continue this for this week as well as some other bits I'm working on.

My practice wasn't very focused this week - I needed to finish my coursera class "Improving your musucianship" amongst other things.
Still working on "Hard Rocker", perhaps I can finish it next week. I didn't practice my finger plaing or BRYCU, but I spend some time with a few examples in "Fretboard Roadmaps"; there are another 2 or 3 examples I want do also.
I want to get back to my usual practice routine next week.

I got busy with other stuff towards the end of the week and only managed 9 hours on guitar and 2 1/2 on bass. I did get Tremblin' Tremolo posted, which was a 3 month project, so that was a pretty big accomplishment. Just barely got started on Groovin' Easy in More BYCU, it looks like it should be a really fun song. Worked a little bit on the lead and rhythm parts but haven't started figuring out the bass part yet. Still working on Minor Soul Chop in the R&B book - I was halfway through uploading the finished video to YouTube but then stopped and decided nope - the lead guitar needs more work. I didn't like the production either, the lead guitar sounded kind of bland. I came up with a nice sound for it on my Fender Mustang II amp (which I'm also using for the lead and rhythm parts of Groovin' Easy). Not that there's anything wrong with Pod Farm but the amp just seems to have a lot more depth and detail to its sound.
Also did some improvising along with backing tracks, worked a bit on a heavy metal song in one of my Troy Stetina books, and on bass I worked on Bass Aerobics and also re-recorded Big Bends for Phil.
Decent week last week, even though my time was limited. Probably be a little busy with other stuff this coming week as well but it shouldn't be too bad.

I only got in 5 days for a total of 6.75 hours this week and 2.75 of that was yesterday. I recorded myself playing the 1st 12 bars of "Big Bends" over the backing track that Jack sent me. It's starting to sound much much better. I also worked on "True Trem." I've got the 1st 18 bars down at a slow speed. I also got in 2 practice days of Jazz. I'm worked on chord forms and harmonizing a scale with a course I bought a couple of weeks ago. I also worked on walking bass lines and the standard "Blue Bossa." I found an excellent explanation at a Jazz website of how to do walking bass. This coming week I'll focus on the last 12 bars and the rhythm of "Big Bends." In Jazz I'm going to zero in on "Jazzin' the Blues," which I've been ignoring, and on that chord melody course. Walking bass and other things have to be put on the back burner for now. I have to narrow my focus or I'll end up just spinning my wheels. I don't want to fall back into my old bad habits.

First of all congrats to Bruce for his new semi I am sure you'll love it.
Practice was a bit strange this week, got about 5 hours or so in on guitar, got my bass back so I practiced about an hour on it, on about an hour on harmonica.
Working on preaching gospel blues, I have it memorized and playing pretty much at full speed, just got to get it cleaned up at the turn around, tune was harder than it looks. Still get my technical work in everyday.
I need a good bass guitar course like the BYCU if anyone can recommend something, basically only learned a progression that fits basic blues but not sure what to do with it.

I got about 10 hrs guitar in this week and 3 hrs on bass, just carrying on with what I started previously. I've got my improvisation book now but really need to work out how best to integrate into my practice program, it appears that there is a lot of theory to get under your belt before you actually start the improvisation exercises part, I may be wrong though when I actually start working through the text.

Very impressive looking guitar.

Mick, are you getting any good toys for your birthday? Bruce Yes of course Bruce, well one toy really, I've ordered a Laney Lionheart L5T 5Watt Combo amp, its just made for playing blues and classic rock. I wanted one of these a while ago but I ended up buying a 15 watt tube studio amp head instead which has facilities for recording direct and usb but it means that if I want to move it around the house or take it out I have to lug a heavy 2 x 12 cab around as well. It might be interesting to see what quality of audio I can achieve by mic'ing it, never tried before so it will be yet another learning curve. I've still got bass guitar GAS but not so bad that it hurts .

Phil, thanks for getting a photo posted. Yeah, that's the one. Mick, the amp looks cool! I hope you can succeed with miking it. I tried miking my son's Egnater. The amp sounds absolutely killer, but I could never get any kind of tone by miking it that I was the least bit happy with. I'm thinking it's due to all my cheap microphones...

Bruce beautiful guitar that was the one I almost bought, I tested one one out and loved the way the neck felt plus it has that magic switch to provide some extra tone options, great guitar. I love that color also.

Hi everybody! Well, I just started my new job, hence my less frequent posting on the forum as opposed to the time before when all I had was the Unemployment Blues (well, not quite literally, but I guess you get my meaning). It seems in the time to come I'll be very busy as travelling will be part of the job, and then there is this family thing I got going- all this equals a very tight practice schedule... looking back at last week this means I really have to figure out a clever workplan that allows me to play on a regular basis. Harsh times... I'll probably have to decide whether my leisure time reserved for music is better spent on the guitar itself or if I continue to play this computer's keyboard so much:( Just in case I won't make it here on the actal days: Enjoy your birhdays, Bruce and Mick!!! Greetings, T. You should get one of those little travel guitars Tony I always find that travelling, and spending time in different places, is fantastically inspiring for songwriting. The change of environment fills me with different moods and numerous song ideas. Record a few ideas when you're out and about and see if you can make finished songs out of them when you get home. This is your assignment, should you choose to accept it!
