Really nice Mick! Timing is excellent and you've got a wonderful guitar sound as always! It's great having a video of this one because it's got that off-beat strumming and I know you're supposed to use downstrokes on the downbeats and upstrokes on the upbeats, so it's nice to actually see someone do it.

Nice and smooth as always, Mick! But please, would you and Phil stop this graduation standard talk already? I really worked hard to get through BYCU/BRYCU, and now I feel as bad as if I bought a PhD on the Internet, just because you guys decided only to give a pass if the pupil's recording is as good as the teacher's... sheesh. First thing I'll have to do once I get back near a guitar is get me John's 2nd edition and work through it all over again. Thanks, really. Just when you think you are out they pull you back in...

I just hope Mick doesn't post "All Forms" the same day I do. How will I be able to give him a smackdown with my crappy version sitting right there?

That was very nice and well played, Mick. Are all the tunes in "Home Hooch" that cool?

Phil & Jack, thanks for the kind comments on my acoustic blues effort . Phil, the book this tune is from is called "Blues Solos for Acoustic Guitar" by Johnny Norris, there are 16 lessons in the book and covers several styles of playing acoustic guitar blues, and yes I would say they are all cool tunes, I have only worked up to the 4th lesson so far. The lessons start with chord and lick style blues and moves onto alternating thumb fingerstyle etc. I'll post the first 3 lessons I have done from the book below, when I started this book I had not done much finger playing all, in fact the first lesson I used a pick because I could just not get it anywhere near using fingers.

Thanks, Mick. This is exactly the kind of stuff I want to learn (along with jazzy blues, urban blues, blues rock, Piedmont Blues, some jazz, etc., etc. ) Seriously, I'm very interested in this and will probably buy this book. I found it on amazon. So thanks a lot, Mick, for making me buy yet another Blues book to add to my under-used and ever growing library of things I want to learn, but never will. However, I think I will actually use this one. I really like the examples you played. I guess I'll have to put off learning "50 Blues Lick You Have to Know Right Now or You'll go Directly to Hell When You Die" for a little while longer.

Those are cool, Mick. You know, I think I actually have that book - it's so old, I think it came with a cassette tape! I've been down the road before of buying guitar books, never really learning to play them... I bet if I go and dig around in my music room, I could find it.
I noticed you are recording the acoustic "plugged in" with some effects on it. Would you care to share with us how you're doing the recordings. I have an acoustic with a pick up, but have never recorded with it (I've only taken up the recording and video thing on this board).

I have an acoustic with a pick up, but have never recorded with it (I've only taken up the recording and video thing on this board). Bruce Bruce, regarding recording, I will certainly share anything I have learned, feel free to ask any time, my way of doing this has evolved somewhat over the past 4 years but the hub of my system now is a Boss BR800 digital recorder, I have tried cubase and various other recording programs for computer but the Boss recorder just works for me. It also has a built in drum machine and pre-sets for guitar, bass and vocals, so it's a great practice tool also. My electro acoustic is an Epiphone Performer SE, essentially its a stereo guitar, it has a mag pickup at the end of the neck and piezo pickup under the bridge, each pickup has a tone control and they can be blended together by the use of a slider control. You can either plug in the guitar in mono mode with one cable or in stereo mode with 2 cables which outputs the 2 pickups seperately giving a more spacial sound which does sound like reverb has been added. My most recent tune "Home Hooch" was recorded on the Boss in stereo mode. Just a thought, but it would help all of us if when someone posts a recording or video they give a brief description of the process, even maybe how they achieved a certain tone etc.

I'll bet that a lot of can identify with that. Most of my stuff is in digital format. I don't have many books in print (at least not Blues stuff, I have a big box of Flamenco material), but even with the few books I have I discovered the other day that I own "Blues Licks You Can Use." Apparently I bought it last Oct.!

Mick,
I'd be pretty happy if I could get that to sound that good up to speed - or even at a slowed down speed for that matter. The tone on that was just beautiful, makin' that strat cry. I just loved that. Man, and your dog was in top form for that, too. Just an all around great job. I think you better start looking for a prom date...
