Anybody out there? Nothing much to report here. I was hoping vacation might re-vitalize my playing, but instead been terribly busy and didn't pick up guitar all week : ( On the plus side, got tickets to see The Raconteurs tonight (one of Jack White's bands). It's also my son's 25th birthday today! Wow - where did all those years go? I also pretty much binge watched the Ken Burns Country Music series this week. Being from Oklahoma, it hits pretty close to home. I never really thought of myself as much of a country music fan, but there was a smattering in my collection of CD's (remember those?) back in the day - Bob Wills, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett.

Hey Bruce, I'm out here somewhere. That documentary was great. Like I said in the other thread, I'm not much of a country music fan especially the modern country pop or whatever it's called. However, my dad was a big CM fan so I grew up hearing the more traditional stuff of the '50s and '60s. I have to add that I wasn't familiar at all with Marty Stuart. I don't know why he's not more famous (maybe he is and I just didn't know it). Last year Roger Mcguinn and Chris Hillman of the Byrds teamed up with Stuart and his band and toured for 6 months together. There are several videos of them on YT doing the whole gammit of Byrds' songs. Marty Stuart is an impressive mandolinist, guitarist, singer and all around showman. I may not be a country music fan, but I'm now a Marty Stuart fan. My big accomplishment for the week was changing my strings. I try to do that once a year whether they need them or not.

I had a pretty mediocre week, got some practicing in, got busy with other stuff other days. Spent all Saturday putting a new threshold and weatherstripping around our back door - I know pretty much every mistake a person can make while doing that now I'm still working on Aldo Nova's "Fantasy", got the rhythm part (all 4 power chords) going pretty well lol. The solo's coming along, there's a fast part I can't get to sound quite right even at 80% tempo. I've been slowing it down to 60% tempo and going up a couple BPM's at a time, maybe after another week of practice it will start sounding better. We had snow flurries here all day yesterday, I better get to work on those Christmas songs too

Even though I checked last week's thread, I forgot to weigh in. Been a decent couple of weeks for me. Back in the routine of picking up the guitar 2X per day. In the mornings I work on my "have to practice this" stuff. In the evening I use the "have to practice this" stuff as a quick warmup then work on whatever. Lately that's been a collection of "songs" I've composed over the last two years. Really all they are is chord progressions with 2-3 sections that have sort of evolved out of noodling around with other stuff I've learned.
Still working Electric Gypsy for my main technical practice. I should make that my signature so I don't have to type it every week.
