Turns out it was a transformational week for me, at least the start of one. Long story short I'm working on breaking the habit of using the inside area beneath the knuckle of my left index finger to anchor my fretting hand when playing in any sort of thumb-over grip. Difficult habit to break, but doing so allows for a much lighter touch on the fretboard. Of course that then causes my RH to sympathetically relax, a good thing in many respects, but it adversely affects my pick grip. All that is related to trying to get to the next tier with Electric Gypsy.
All the other stuff is going okay, probably add another pair of two-bar phrases for the week, but mostly I'll be working on playing thumb-over with minimal contact/pressure with the back of my hand. My index finger is actually pretty weak thanks to the habits I'm trying to eliminate.

Gramps, I only wish I could do the "thumb over" thing. My hands are too small. It's a very useful technique.
Nothing exciting to report. Still working on the same stuff. I don't think I mentioned that I bought another course about 3 weeks ago. It was the 1st one I bought in a long time. This one is a Jazz Blues course featuring the playing of 4 top Jazz Blues players, Charlie Christian, Kenny Burrell, Wes Mongomery, and Grant Green. It has 2-4 full 12-bar studies by each. There are also studies in John Ganapes' Jazzin' the Blues based on Charlie Christian's and Wes Montgomery's Blues styles. So, obviously, John is a fan of these players. I watched the whole thing when I bought it and then promptly forgot about it. I remembered it yesterday. My primary focus and goal for July is to master 1 or 2 of the Charlie Christian studies.
Charlie Christian was one of the early adapters of the electric guitar. He is also one of the most influential guitarists in Jazz history even though he died at age 25 in 1942. His playing is still amazingly fresh and modern sounding today. Check out "Charlie Christian live at Minton's" on YT. You'll be surprised that this was recorded in 1941 - it's so modern sounding. At the end of May I wrote up a plan and goals for June. As usual, it was overly ambitious. I haven't changed it, but now it's become my plan for the next 2 months. Probably will still be my plan come December.

Gramps, I only wish I could do the "thumb over" thing. My hands are too small. It's a very useful technique. It's my basic position. I don't necessarily fret notes with my thumb (I can under sufficient duress though), mostly my thumb is just a hook to keep my hand from falling off the neck, especially when I play standing up.

Another kind of blah week here - my shoulder is doing better, but not "well", I'm having to work this weekend, and to cap it all off, I've caught a summertime cold...

I just did that little solo I posted in last week's update, since then I've been strumming a bit of "Gold Dust Woman" by Stevie Nicks, or is it Fleetwood Mac? Found a transcription for two acoustic guitars, so maybe I'll keep working on that. Or more likely I'll drift aimlessly from one thing to another

He gave me 3 versions of Stormy Monday, so practicing getting smoother on the chord transitions. Anyway have my guitar and pod with me for a travel practice rig,
