I got in 6 days/9.5 hours. Still working on the same things. I've made a commitment to not to start anything new until I polish and record the 8 or 9 tunes I have in various stages of un-doneness. I forced myself to continue on the 2nd half of the Mickey Baker book. As I mentioned before, this involves reading standard notation which is why I avoided it in the past. Another thing I tried is to play with the metronome on beats 2 and 4. This is a thing that many Jazz guitar teachers recommend. You turn the metronome down to half the tempo you want and hear those clicks as falling on beats 2 and 4. It's supposed to develop your swing feel emphasizing beats 2 and 4. That's challenging right now. "Challenging" is really not the correct word - it's driving me nuts. I keep slipping back a beat to hearing and playing on beats 1 and 3. But I'll keep at it. My big disappointment is that I didn't get "The Christmas Song" recorded. I still might do it even if it's past Christmas. I was also planning to upload a new version of "White Christmas" as kind of a comparison-contrast with last year's version. Oh, well.
I'm starting to think about some goals for 2019. I'm going to seriously limit any goals to just a couple of reasonable and attainable things. No more setting myself up for failure.

Crappy week for me, don't think I touched a guitar all week. Like I mentioned before, I seem to only be able to stay interested in one hobby at a time and right now that's working out. That's coming along okay at least Ah well, guess I know what my new year's resolution is gonna be - get in at least a half hour of practice each day. I need to find a song to get me motivated again. I certainly didn't get any Christmas songs recorded either. Family members are complaining they miss hearing "Away in a Manger" 1,000 times during December lol. Phil that sounds like a good exercise, setting the metronome for beats 2 & 4. I think I tried something similar a long time ago, with some songs where nothing was on beat 1.

Hi guys, Just checking in to see how you all are keeping and to wish you Seasons Greetings. Well, guitar wise it's been a pretty crappy year for me, not even purchased anything guitar related since before last Christmas. I don't really know why but I just sort of lost motivation and interest for serious practice, got distracted by other random stuff, and then, my main computer totally packed in with all my music stuff with it!! I now have new computer and just setting up the focusrite, reaper and Vegas, hopefully I will get it all talking to each other again!! I have a lot of catching up to do, but first I need to develop some decent fingertips again. I am developing string grooves after just a few minutes of playing, and my fingers have the dexterity of sausages . Here's my last years Christmas song offering - Happy Christmas

Mick: I don't remember that tune from last year. I liked it a lot. I hope you get re-motivated in 2019.
Jack: several years ago it occurred to that I whenever I got seriously into exercising I didn't play guitar and vice versa. I have no explanation for that. Hope you find some balance and are able to do both consistently in 2019.

Hi guys, Just checking in to see how you all are keeping and to wish you Seasons Greetings. Good to hear from you again Mick! I was thinking about the other days that you hadn't been on the forum for a long time. Best wishes to you and your family for the holidays, and to all my other friends here. I had hoped to share a recording of John's version of White Christmas, but even for my standards it was not ready to be put online. Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas All, I lost track of practice time, but its in excess of 6 hours, goining over same stuff modtly. Started extra practice going into turn around, was having trouble figuring out exactly where to start in the progression.
Reviewed Everyday I have the blues have first few riffs pretty good, mannish boy main riff, born under a bad sighn intro, cocain, and learned Blitzkrieg Bop by Ramones.
Love the new Strat, adjust 5th and 6 th string bridge height a little got the fret buzz out, i think it needs a good setup though after holiday will take it in. Did play some with a friend, he does justice to my nice guitars lol.
Mick glad you checked in I was just thing about you the other day as I noticed you hadnt posted in awhile. I had same thing life caught up no practice just 15 minutes a day i did then got worked back into to long sessions.

Merry Christmas everyone! Mick so glad to see you back, that was a very haunting rendition of that tune Reminded me of Miraculum by Lincoln Brewster. Phil, yeah I've gotta find some balance between hobbies. My working out is much like my guitar playing has always been - go at it like a madman for a while then quit for 5 years lol. Well since I've no new Christmas songs to post I'll go with last year's as well

Oops, missed out on checking in yesterday... Mick, good to hear you're okay, and welcome back! Not much guitar wise to report - been working the weekend, my kids are here for Christmas, shopping, etc. - just way too much life going on. I think I only picked up the guitar 2 or 3 times all week, and then only briefly. Well, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone - hope Santa and his elves have been working on some new guitars and music gear!

Merry Christmas all. Both the recordings posted are excellent.
Only a partial week for me. Traveling to visit family and decided not to bring a guitar along. I probably had 8-10 hours prior to departing. Still working on the same snippets of SRV and Andy Timmons. I'll probably continue with that through the end of 2018 while looking at options for how to approach things in 2019. Any goals I set will be related to level of effort or subject matter. I'll probably return to the Keith Wyatt books. They seem to do more for me than any other books I've tried. I'll continue to do a lot of playing along with slowed down originals (aka reps). For me that's proving a more efficient way of learning than starting with ink on a page and trying to turn it into something musical with only a metronome for accompaniment.
I downloaded the mp3 version of Led Zeppelin "Mothership" to help pass the time during my 10 hr drive. I know those sorts of compilations aren't the best way to listen to a band but I was feeling nostalgic and wanted a quick survey of their studio catalog. There were a few I am considering putting into the rep mill. Even if I don't have a guitar that qualifies me to collaborate with Jack, it will still be fun to try and tackle one of those. Kashmir is the one that's always intrigued me, but I don't have enough guitars to dedicate one to DADGAD (I think that's what he uses). Maybe if I buy a bunch of springs to add to my bridges going between tunings won't be such a headache.
Anyway, I digress. Perhaps more to come at a later time regarding next year's approach.
